Cheap drinks, or even dive bars in Zurich?

Are there any local joints in Zurich, where you can enjoy inexpensive drinks? Any area less visited by tourists? Fact that Zh is very expensive is obvious and no need to be reminded. Actually, I meant to ask this question guys and dolls, who spent some time in Zh and know it well, not only advertized places i can Google myself, but also local ones. Thanks to all,,,

Cheap drinx are hard to come by in Zuri, I think that Zähringer just off the Niederdorfli is fairly priced... it's a kinda lefty student hangout. I recall going some place else where the drinks were cheap, I'll post it once I recall the name.

What's your idea of inexpensive..? Tap water is very reasonable these days..
Any place not located on Bahnhofstrasse, Niederdorf or any where in the Old Town area would be less frequented by tourists, besides, Zurich isn't really a tourist city to begin with so it's not all that much of an issue anyway.

Re: Cheap drinks, or even dive bars in Zurich?

As for cheap drinks (as in getting wasted for little money) I would recommend 2. or 4. Akt - near Hardbrücke and Escher-Wyss. Just make sure to get there early, as it will be packed later on for sure!

Otherwise.... you'll probably 'have' to go on a Pub/Bar crawl to find out more...

Good luck hunting...

Kontiki on Niederdorf is also good if you have 80% tattoo-coverage and "lots of shit in yer face", as John Travolta said to Rosanna Arquette...

As afore mentioned, the Kontiki and the Zähringer are both cheap and not as chic as other places you could visit in the Bahnhofstrasse. Plus, they are reletively close, in the same section of town call the Niederdorf (or old town) where you can also retreat to the English pub, (who's name my good friend M is finding on the putor.... Pickwicks or Oliver Twist..... summat like that) should you need to resort to your mother-tongue. And you can see the big clock from around there.

Re: Cheap drinks, or even dive bars in Zurich?

I'm now settled in Zurich after 2 months - thanks to a lot of other threads on here - and now I want to get my drink problem back on track!

The title of this post seems to capture what I'm after, so can anyone recommend cheap bars -preferably in the Schmiede Wiedikon (Kreis 3) area - with an ounce of character/atmosphere??

I did stumble across a place called Scheidegg Bierstube, which would be perfect in terms of location; however, I've got in there for a scoop just yet. Does anyone have any feedback on this place??

Re: Cheap drinks, or even dive bars in Zurich?

I've walked past there in the mornings and afternoons and it's mostly alcy's sat outside nursing a nasty stanger. Agreed, a great location and crying out for someone to do something with it. But really not the sort of place I would venture into.

If you want the cheapest wine in town, head to Eddies Weinstube in the Niederdorf. It's in an ex porn cinema and there's loads of old porn "art" on the walls, so not for the prudish. But the wine is good and very cheap, about 3 chufs a glass or 19 a bottle. They also have their own branded Prosecco, called Pornsecco!

They have a small outside drinking area for nice days too.

I think Les Hallles are pretty reasonable, or else if you're willing to travel a little bit go down to Rote Fabrik. Otherwise Zahringer for a student vibe.

Our office favourite has to be Aubrey by Puls5.

Happy hour on Fridays from 5-7, wine and beer half price. Where else can you get three pints for less than a tenner!!

Re: Cheap drinks, or even dive bars in Zurich?

I once saw this bar recommended here: http://barolino.ch/graeblibar . From the description, it's clearly not one of the higher class establishments.
I have no personal experience of the place, but was intriegued by some of the visitors' comments on the homepage. One says 'die Barschlampe ist eher eine Koryhäere'. Any idea what a 'Koryhäere' is ? A Koreanerin ?

Re: Cheap drinks, or even dive bars in Zurich?

Some of my friends and I enjoy the following, relatively inexpensive bars:
-Barflyz (for cocktails)
-Ole Ole
-Regenbogen Bar
-Porno Bar (not it's real name, but we call it that because it used to be connected to the porn theater in the Niederdorf before the theater went out of business)
