Oddly enough I was in several of those in the last few days too. Owned by McDonalds ironically.

Can't wait for Wagamamas...Looking forward to chicken chilli men!!! All we need now is Nandos or at least somewhere over here where I can buy Nandos hot peri peri marinade instead of having to stock up on it when I go back to England.

wagamama is (almost) here

Japanese food lovers watch out. The original Wagamama restaurant, first opened in London, is coming in duo pack to Switzerland.

2 outlets are planned:

Winterthur marktgasse 7/obergasse opening Thur 17 Apr 2008
Zurich city sihlporte opening Mon 1 Sep 2008

Anyone interested to give it a try (whether you have or have not yet tried before)?

Hmm... those yummy duck dumplings starters ...

Re: wagamama is (almost) here

I can't handle the way they don't bring everyone's food to the table at the same time. I don't know about England (or Switzerland), but culturally aussies are rumored to wait until everyone is served before eating. (Although the inlaws never seem to, *shrug*). If I'm the first served I have this internal conundrum whether to break a basic social taboo, or eat the sweet sweet curry before me. I think the other people at the table just see me drooling and say "eat already".

The green curry is my favourite.

There's 3 of them in the Sydney CBD (airport, circular quay & darling harbour).

Wagamama

I just tried the new Wagamama Noodle restaurant that opened last week in Winterthur. I can highly recommend it.
The service was good, and very fast, and the food was excellent. Apparently they will be opening a branch at Sihlporte in Zürich in September.

It's almost upon us.

Wagamama Zurich opens this Friday, September 12th.

Rather close to the Talacker, I might add!

Re: Wagamama coming to CH

They were handing out chopsticks with a coupon attached for a free fresh pressed vegetable or fruit juice at the Stauffacher tram stop this morning! They are opening today says the coupon, at Talstrasse 83/Sihlporte (looks like where Coop City, and before that EPA, used to be)

I hope no one gets the idea that Wagamama is that authentic...it's sort of Japanese-ish, in an oddly retro way. It was born in London and tastes like it. But I don't hate it the way I hate Yo! Sushi. (I run a site called justhungry.com fwiw)

We were there recently I really liked the food. then I am a spicy/noodle fan standard Zürich prices, friendly service.
Though I has the same issue as someone mentioned before not everyone is served at the same time.

Re: Wagamama coming to CH

Visited last week... It was OK - nothing special. Its crowded at lunchtimes so get there before 11.45 or you will have to queue.

The menu is the same as I remember from London - but its been a couple of years since I ate at the London ones so don't know how the price compares to there.

I think its the sort of place you would go to on a Saturday if you were in a bit of a rush and just wanted somewhere for a quick lunch as a break from shopping

Re: Wagamama coming to CH

There was a comparison between Wagamamas and other noodlebars in the last Sonntags Zeitung... and it came in a distant fourth ...

found it:

Eight years on, and it's time to say goodbye to Wagamama in Zurich.

The franchise is up and it's shutting its doors on 30th April.

No mention of it on their website though (I'm on their mailing list, and an email was shot out yesterday)

Re: Wagamama coming to CH

I'm still convinced that if it was located a few hundred metres towards Bahnhofstrasse the story would be very different. It's in a very odd position with seemingly very low footfall. Now we need a Nandos and/or Pret.

Shame, we go there quite often when we have friends visiting us - it's the most child-friendly place we've found in Zürich to eat.

I agree with the location comment above, it's really low footfall and I suspect most people simply don't know where it is.

Re: Wagamama coming to CH

Wagamama Zürichs food was a bit below average to say the least, and a tad confused Japanese/Asian mix, so I am not surprised. The Swiss version is Cha Cha, but that is also rather disappointing.

Re: Wagamama coming to CH

I wasn't a big fan Went a few times, but found the food mediocre at best, especially the soups.

I like this place: http://nooba.ch/ Gets mixed reviews too, but I enjoy it. Only ever eat the soups there, though Maybe it's an alternative for some, though unfortunately not quite in the center.

Re: Wagamama coming to CH

I disagree that the location is the problem. It's literally surrounded by office blocks and can reach thousands of potential clients within a 5-10 min walk. Paddy's seems to be doing just fine next door and even a not-so-awesome bar like Talacker does seem to work.

The problem is that the food isn't quite up to par. I was walking around the area for lunch yesterday and looked at it and thought "nah, I'll walk the 2 mins extra and eat at Saigon instead"... (http://www.saigon.ch/34-0-Video.html)

Re: Wagamama coming to CH

I agree that Wagamama is very average, but as I only moved here less than three months ago, I was quite happy when I came across it. Only ate there once though and the food was worse than the UK Wagamama. I'll give Nooba and Cha Cha a try, sorry I can't thank you, Samaire13 and TobiasM, but I am new and can't do that yet.
