Australia Day

G'day!

I was just wondering if there are any Australia Day festivities this year (January 26th). Anywhere in Switzerland is fine, whatever you've heard, please let me know! Thanks!

The Nelson Pub in downtown is making an Australia Day Party. I however cannot tell you whether or not it is worth a visit. I expect the Outback at Stadelhofen to do something, as the Outback is an Australian Restaurant

Re: Australia Day

I've celebrated Oz Day a few years in a row at Oliver Twist in the Niederdorf (http://www.pickwick.ch/oliver-twist-pub-zuerich/). It's not an Aussie pub but it's run by a good Aussie chap and for Oz Day they put on some classic Aussie music, meat pies, Aussie beers, games and the atmosphere is all round pretty fun - definitely the best place I've celebrated Oz Day in CH! If they celebrate Oz Day again this year I highly recommend it!

Re: Australia Day

I wouldn't recommend The Outback at all. They don't have any Aussies that work there and sometimes don't even know when it is Aussie day. When i asked them about it when i first arrived - they asked me what it was!

You are best to go somewhere where Aussies work and know how to put on an Aussie party.

I've been to the Twist many times for Aussie related stuff (Aus day, GF day etc.) and they always put on a good party.

Nelsons, not sure if they have any Aussies there and to me and my friends, it is kind of the place you go when you've been drinking all night and everything else is closed.

Not sure about the other pubs, have never heard if they do anything.

Where is Josh?
Good feedback on Nelsons. I started an event here for Australia day Australia Day 2015 so maybe the finish at Nelsons might work okay?

Not Aussie by birth but spent a good while there. Would be up for a couple of VBs and pie (with red sauce) if anything is happening...

Happy Australia day Sheilas & fellahs. Why don't you people celebrate your national day in the summer? January is a very cold month!

As the Sydney Morning Herald puts it, other countries have military march pasts and official pomp while Australians celebrate by having a backyard barbecue and beer. Happy Australia Day

Re: Australia Day

The French invaded Britain, later Britain invaded Australia (and half the world)

Why can't the left wing do-gooders accept that the Aborigines gained a much better life style after the British invasion?

Hold your heads up high diggers! You should be proud of your achievements.

Happy Australia Day to all of you.
