Summer bars and restaurants

Seeing as the weather has finally picked up and the sun has come out, I thought I’d start a thread for good places to have a beer or two outside in the sunshine. I did a quick search on the forum and I can find threads with bar and restaurant recommendations but there doesn’t seem to be a thread dedicated to bars/restaurants that are good places to go in the summer and have nice terraces/outside areas where you can soak up some rays with a chilled glass of wine (or 2 or 3……..)

For anyone posting recommendations this thread is not just for Zurich I’m sure forum members living elsewhere would appreciate recommendations where they live too! However, please try to keep this thread limited to places with outside areas as there are other existing threads for general bar and restaurant reviews!

I’ll start the ball rolling with:

Rimini Bar

www.rimini.ch

An outdoor bar with pretty cool lighting effects situated over the river in Zurich (next to the Hallenbad). Particularly good for an after work drink in the city due to reasonably central location. Ladies beware….most of the floor area is decking so be extra careful when wearing stilettos!

Address:
Rimini-Bar (in der Männerbadi)
Am Schanzengraben
8002 Zürich

Open hours:
Tue-Fri/Sun 7.30-12pm
Sat 5-12pm
closed in the Rain

Also

Pumpstation

www.pumpstation.ch

A lakeside bar, just down from Bellevue in Zurich.

Address:
Restaurant-Bar Pumpstation
Utoquai 10
8008 Zürich

Open hours:
only closed by rainy weather

We ate here last weekend and it was great - they have a quaint little terasse in front and their menu is huge.

Re: Summer bars and restaurants

As a former Muenchener I am always on the hunt for a good beer garden. Here are three (with their associated Ratbert Beer garden Ratings):

Bauschaenzli: RBGR 3/3

Very good beer, pretzels, fresh chicken and bratwurst, sitting in the sun, looking at the river, what could be better?
http://www.bauschaenzli.ch/de/index.html

Hotel Sonne: RBGR 2/3

Located in Kuesnacht, overlooking the lake.
http://www.sonne.ch/en/restaurant.shtml

Wirtschaft zur Kantine
: RBGR 2/3

Good beer, cheap eats, a nice view of the Uetliberg (although a bit too close to the highway)

In Basel there is

Chill am Rhy

That they set up each year on the shore of the Rhein under the Grossmunster. It's pretty cool. Might be worth a trip west.

Re: Summer bars and restaurants

For Bern :

Schwellenmaetelli on the River

Kleine Schanze on Bundesgasse (will have Euro 2008 coverage ouside too)

Marzilibrücke great pizza in the beer garden, also a top (bookable) venue for Euro 2008 watching

Ye Old Faythful - Altes Tram Depot, the best terrace in Bern.

Fancy champagne & strawberries ? The terrace at the Bellevue, slosh it down in romantic stylee whilst looking at the Alps (not too spenny neither)

Re: Summer bars and restaurants

There's a couple of excellent ones in Luzern.

The Sunset Bar is probably one of the nicest bars I've ever been to, but it's way out of town. Makes for a nice short bike ride along the lake, it's past the transport museum and the Lido. If you have a boat though, you can just pull up right to the bar...

Seebad is another great place, open air swimming pool by day, bar by night, they also make great paninis.

You can also hang out in one of the local parks with a beach, which is extremely popular, I think it's called aufschetti, but I'm not sure. Here it is on Google, bring some beers and chill out.

And of course there are all the bars and restaurants alongside the river, including Pickwicks.

Re: Summer bars and restaurants

East Side: the cocktail of bars at Rosengasse (regenbogen Nachtflug, back of Three Monkeys)

West Side : Reitshalle and El Lokal

South Side : Enge Bade, Blue, Seerose, Rote Fabrik.

I'll stop there before I begin to sound like I am in a Wyclef Jean video.
