Bands at Abart or other clubs start/end times

Hello all,
Warning... newbie question. I am excited to attend my first club show since moving to Switzerland but I have a question about what to expect in terms of when the show will actually start and end. I am heading to see Dinosaur Jr. at the Abart. The ticket says 20:30 (there is an opening band) with doors opening at 20:00. When can I expect the show to actually start- both the opening act and the headliner? I am used to shows in the US where bands rarely start on time and shows go late. I am sure there is a lot of variability here depending on what band(s) are playing but can anyone give me a general idea of what to expect. Since the bands are American, there may not be much difference in how things operate, but I was hoping to find out what I could from others on the forum. I am particularly interested in finding out how late the show might last since I am traveling by public transport and can't get home if I am out too late.

Hi Salamander

Don't worry you should have no problem getting home after the gig with public transport.
Bands usually start within 10 - 15 minutes of the advertised starting time and i'd give probably 40 minutes for the support act to perform with a 20 minutes break then before the main act come on.

Dinosaur Jr absolutely rock I saw J. Mascis play in Dublin with about 200 people there in this tiny little venue. His guitar skills blew me away

Night buses and trains run all night on fridays and saturdays - so there should be no worries there if you're seeing them on these nights.

Abart's a great club. Get yourself a spot right up by the stage. You see some good bands up close in there. Times are pretty much the same as anywhere else for these things. that is to say quite a bit later than the published time.

The Abart is a great club; we've been to see a few bands there. It's small and usually has a good atmosphere.

It's not much different from anywhere else. I'll have to say, I've never been to see a band there and had it start on time. I'm pretty sure there have been a few times when there's been an hour between the support act and the main act coming on...

You shouldn't have too much trouble with public transport but I'd definitely check times. We have had occasions where we've had to leave ten to fifteen minutes before the end to avoid missing our last train...

Double check before you go that they haven't changed the venue. Occasionally they do that, just to surprise you.

Yeah, I'm looking forward to the show. I actually grew up about 10-20 minutes from these guys and have seen them before (but not for a long time) including a J. Mascis solo show- is that what you saw? His solo acoustic shows are great if you are a fan.
I just found out today that I know one of the people in the opening band, Awesome Color, as well. What a small world. I didn't expect to show up in Switzerland and run into people I know like that.

Thanks all for the feedback and advice. There doesn't seem to be a definitive answer, which I suspected might be true- some shows start early some don't, some opening bands take their time to get out on stage, some don't. I wasn't sure if I could expect the same strict adherence to a schedule that you get with the trains etc here. It is rock n' roll after all, so I should have known better. We'll see how it goes. J. Mascis is definitely well-known as a slacker extraordinaire so they may be a little slow to get out on stage. If you are going to the show, I might recommend earplugs too. J. is known for playing ear-bleedingly loud, to the point where in some venues he drowns out the rest of the band.
