Interesting places to dine in Colmar

Hi all,

Naturally I already tried the search and TripAdvisor which has a ton of suggestions. The EF search led me to this thread which is kind of on the old side and was mainly places in St Louis and Mulhouse
https://www.englishforum.ch/entertai...is-colmar.html

My parents are going to be in Colmar on a package tour of Alsace - they are going to be in a hotel near the main rail station. We plan to shuttle across to meet them.

So do any EFers living in the area have a favourite, unpretentious gem of a restaurant in the city centre they recommend we try? Preferably specialising in local cuisine.

Cheers,
Nick

Re: Interesting places to dine in Colmar

Hi NickatBasel

Here is my quick review from eating in Colmar during the past few months

L' Epicurien Very good food, small, need to reserve, modern menu
Schwendi Basic, good for snacks not so much for evening meal. Good atmosphere
La Taverne Very basic food, restaurant looks good
Wistub Flory Interesting restaurant. Good prices and very reasonable ( but not brilliant food )

All these 4 restaurants serve local food, Bon Appetit !!!!

Re: Interesting places to dine in Colmar

Lots of choices, being surprised is part of the charm of Colmar
Personal favorites: Maison Rouge for meat fans (I'm not a fan of the Alsatian calf's head, sauerkraut, etc but they have nice selection of filets, roasts make in their open oven near the entrance, etc.) For fish, try JYS with nice location along a little waterway, charming
Also try the Flammkuche with a terse local white wine - not great on it's own but somehow works together.
PS don't recommend the restaurant, but go to the Maison d'Tete for a coffee and to look at the building and all the faces on the wall outside.

We always go to the Brasserie de l'Auberge whenever we're in Colmar.

Yep, can recommend Brasserie de l'Auberge too. Good white wines being Alsace

I can recommend http://www.atelier-peintre.fr/.

One Michelin star, brilliant food, very good price at lunch time.
Tasting menu for dinner costs 69euros - price of pizza, beer and coffee in Zurich.

Thats hardly accurate, 30-40 CHF which is half or less than half of 69 euros.

Obviously it is not meant to be accurate, but rather to stress the great price/quality ratio in that restaurant in Colmar in comparison with any regular meal in Zurich.

The lunch menu costs 27 euros (2 courses) or 33 euros (3 courses), which exactly amounts for the price of pizza plus beer (without coffee).

Having a michelin star lunch at this price is a bargain.

Still slightly OTT, Pizza in Zurich is usually sub 20 CHF, 27 euros is in excess of 30 CHF.

Hi all, is l'atelier du peintre (sufficiently) kids friendly? Or would you recommend brasserie de l'auberge instead?

JY's

https://www.jean-yves-schillinger.com/

Its a really nice fancy place on the river. 2 Michelin stars. But the prices arent bad...compared to the 30 quid pizza you pay here!

We had a 6 course meal with extras, champagne apero and wine paired with the food, I think it was 250 Euro, so 125 each. Considering its fancy thats not such a terrible price. They also have menus for 50 Euro I think

I can recommend JY's too, we always eat there when we visit Colmar. Although, to be honest, we visit Colmar so we can eat there.
