Meeting 'room' for social event wanted

Can anybody recommend a 'meeting room' venue, preferably free for around 20 people in Basel

I'm organising a 'MeetUp' and have more participants booked than expected

I can't recommend anything in particular, but when one of my clubs wants to arrange a meet up in some Swiss town we just explain that we have 20 for dinner/lunch, whatever, and they are usually only too happy to give us a private room.

Thanks.. It's more of a 'meeting' (maybe with a presentation) rather than a meal.. but drinks afterwards

In Zürich we have these places called Gemeinschaftszentrum, provided by the city. Rent is typically peanuts or even free but you can't (AFAIK) do anything commercial such as charge admission, and it helps if what you're doing has something vaguely charitable or social about it - but this is not a necessity.

Does Basel have something comparable?

Many churches rent out their halls, also for secular events.

baselpanto.org rent out their room.

Best bet though, is to approach a bar/cafe. My daughters are part of a choir that get a free room to practice in on the understanding that everyone buys a drink.

Yes. Some restaurants will rent out their separate hall for a flat fee, some for free if there's the above understanding.

Well I know my local restaurant give a room free if you let their staff go into sell drinks during the meet. So give it a go, all they can say is no.
