Cafes that you'd recommend

I love a good cafe. One that's cozy and unpretentious.

Yesterday, during my meandering through Zürich, we popped into LaZoupa and were immediately enchanted by our surroundings. To top it off, we had table in the window (yes, IN the window) and loved watching passersby as we ate our soup and quiche and chatted about life. It was really quite magical.

Are there any good cafes you'd love to recommend?

Re: Cafes that you'd recommend

I also love a good coffee and the best so far is at Mame!
I found an article that talks about the Swiss barista champs that run the 2 cafes in Zürich.

Cafe Lang at Limmatplatz is wonderful, and they have a sheltered south facing terrace so even on days like this you can sit outside.

Seconded.
It's doesn't look like much from the outside, but is lovely and cosy inside.

A bit further out, just 10-15 mins on the train or by boat, the beer garden at Hotel Sonne in Kusnacht is wonderful at weekends, or any day in summer. If it's still a bit chilly, you can sit one of the 2 sleighs with a sheepskin blanket over you and hugging a hot chocolate.

Cabaret Voltaire, ZH.

And Le Philosophe, ZH, although it is more of a bar.

I was just about to suggest spheres, it's on my way home, great place for coffee in the mornings or a wine in the evening. And it's a book shop too!

What if it is a cool place but capuccino would be 4.50?

I have a really friendly community cafe 2min away, it is a work station, too, food, everything. They pay their people well and their coffees are really expensive. I prefer cutting down on the times I go there but still go there.

Are you just looking for recommendations in Zurich or anywhere in Switzerland?

Le Perroquet vert in Bienne (Biel) and the Odéon also in Bienne are both very nice.

Re: Cafes that you'd recommend

Can second Cafe Voltaire - the history of the place is super cool.

I also love sitting at the bar at Cafe Odeon. Even though it can get crowded with tourists, it feels like you have stepped back in time & there is something magical about it.

I can also recommend Manuel's, my husband and I popped in for a quick coffee and ended up forgetting our plans and enjoyed the best cocktails I've had in Europe. A lovely surprise and the atmosphere is great.

How long does one have to save for one? (Best coctail in Europe).

I started with the idea of cafes in Zürich but let's extend it to cafes in Switzerland. We all love travelling and making a cafe part of your destination could be quite fun.

In Nyon, Ex Machina is US sized and has good espresso & other offerings but I actually prefer the smaller & more personal Venezia on Rue de la Gare in Nyon

If we're opening up to cocktails, I suggest the Kronenhalle Bar (not the restaurant), not 50m away from the Odeon. Original Chagall and Picasso paintings on the walls (among others).

They weren't as expensive as going to Kronenhalle etc., and just as good - even though I looove Kronenhalle.
