1st birthday party venues Gold Coast

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for a place to host my baby's first birthday party in September, and I ideally want an outdoor space with some covered area just in case of rain! Somewhere down the Gold Coast, Zollikon/ Kusnacht/ Meilen/ Herrliberg area.

Ideally one that I could provide the food and booze, but that's not essential.

Do you know of any places?

Cheers

Re: 1st birthday party venues Gold Coast

Welcome to the Forum. How much booze is required for a 1-year old's birthday party?

Kidding. No idea about locations near the Gold Coast, but have a bump since no one else has answered yet. It might help if you gave a rough number of people, whether you want some sort of bbq facilities, etc.

I certainly cannot remember my 1st birthday, or my 2nd, or my third. But my 14th was very special. Went to a Door’s concert!

Re: 1st birthday party venues Gold Coast

What's your budget? How many people are you planning to invite? Are you looking for something more polished or will rustic do? How are you with doing everything yourself, including cleaning the location to the proper standard afterwards? Is it a lunchtime, afternoon or evening party? Are you resident in one of the Gold Coast villages? Depending on where you live, you may be able to rent certain spaces reserved for local residents, such as the Badhüüsli (bathing huts) in Herrliberg or Meilen.

Your question is too vague to be able to answer helpfully. Also: Bear in mind that planning is often done at least 6 months in advance, often more, so you need to hurry up if you want to secure a location, you've left it a bit late. Not impossible, but late.

This site covers a few Germaides public rental places, you don't have to be local but the rate may vary. https://www.raum4you.ch/

1st (and second and probably also third) birthday parties are for the parents ans family rather than the child itself.
It’s an important milestone in their child’s life and as such some parents like to make an occasion of it.

Re: 1st birthday party venues Gold Coast

For a one year old, I would find a nearby playground / park with picnic tables and some sort of shelter possibility in case it rains.

Get there early (like 7am) to bag a picnic table (or bring your own portable one) and to find a spot in the shade. To make sure of getting a spot I would hire a mate to bag and guard the table.

This link shows a map of Zurich city with all the playgrounds marked - going as far along the Gold Coast as Tiefenbrünnen. Maybe check some of these out.

Otherwise, some friends of ours used this place for their daughter's 2nd birthday a couple of years back. It is on a nice grassy spot, sufficiently far back from the lake not to worry about small ones falling into water.

On the same website there is a map of play areas in Männedorf:

https://www.maennedorf.ch/projekte/30808

Most of the communities on the lake have their own municipal websites which will carry similar info if you Google.

HTH.
Nick

I think every Gemeinde has a place designated for relatively small gatherings or parties which everyone can rent - usually there's one large room with tables, a small kitchen equipped with everything you need, a wc for guests. You can rent it for a relatively small amount, you have to leave it as you found it - clean.

I suppose the queue starts early, so you might be out of luck here. Otherwise, just look for a nice restaurant with a terrace and play ground for kids (ideally), I'm sure you'll find something now, many are struggling and would be happy with any business.

But how long do you think toddlers and moms will be partying? A couple or 3 hours, 3,5 hours top. I don't get the fuss, but maybe that's just me.

Our son turned one when we still lived in Basel. We did his birthday party at Claramatte Park which has play possibilities for the kids - incl. sandpit, paddling pool, water tap etc. The park was sufficiently close to our apartment that we could escape there if the weather would turn. Plus we had a pot of chilli cooked and ready to warm up in case the grown-ups wanted something to soak up the beer.

As you say, after 3 hours or so, the toddlers were tired out and most people went home anyway.

It doesn't need to be complicated.

Cheers,
Nick

If you don't mind coming into the city, you can rent a party room at the Riesbach Community Center in Seefeld (GZ Riesbach) for very little money with its own playground.

Another idea, would be the Wynegg Community Farm - also in Seefeld - Quartierhof Wynegg. The community farm is great - inside and outside space, animals to look at.

Sorry - both websites are in German.
