Re: Needing good thai food..

This tennis cafe has opened again for the season. Had lunch there today and the green curry and red curry duck were very yummylicious.

(Tennis Beizli restaurant)
Riedmattweg 20 (off Riedmatt)
CH-6300
Zug

041 740 3991

It's self-service mostly and open only till end-October. It's located next to tennis courts, among meadows. A leafy lane leads to it from the Zugerstrasse, somewhere behind Choellermuehli and Swiss Hotel. Very good tender pork slices with fried garlic, tom yam seafood, etc.

It's connected to the tennis facilities.

Went here yesterday. Must say it is probably the best Thai food we have had in Switzerland. Well worth trekking there from Zurich. 2 minutes walk from the station.

Re: Needing good thai food..

My new find is the place across from Roi Et that's on Schöneggstrasse, some paces away from militairestr/langstrasse corner.

It's a grocery store called Phuket Asia Center but they have a small restaurant section.

I haven't been to Roi Et in years - also used to be good.

And then there's also Som Tam that's between Stauffacher and Helvetiaplatz - Bäckerstrasse 19, 8004 Zürich

I have been to the one at Helvetia Platzs.

Au Hau is good food but it is a little more cross-Asia than dedicated Thai.

Have you been to the one in Affoltern. a. A since it changed hands Lou as it used to be very good, and better/cheeper than anything in Zug.... with the exception of the one argus talks about.

I'm not such an expert (Malaysian and Indonesian is more my cup of chai) but Blue Monkey on/off Niederdorf is tasty and convenient for me.

Vince has made some interesting contributions
Re: Needing good thai food..

  • For the once-a-year "we have something to celebrate"-occasion: Thai Orchid in Meilen is great. (and hence expensive)
  • Ah Hua is indeed delicious and authentic, although more of a casual place to eat than a restaurant. Great value for money.
  • Tiffin's ... not authentic/tasty...over-priced, definitely lost my vote. (same with Misho - you end up paying easily CHF 70 for two and still don't feel you ate properly)
  • Curry Diamond in the Weinbergstrasse also serves great Thai food.

Papa Goosey, if you find Riedmatt, look for the tennis courts. It's a very low building next to them. Good luck and guten Appetit!

P.S. The prices have gone up a wee bit but still worth it. It's more a cafetaria than anything else, where you clear your own table, haha.

Re: Needing good thai food..

Interlaken there's a really nice one called
"Sirinya's Thai Restaurant" Tel:033 821 65 35.
If you like your Asian food "scharf" make sure you ask extra for it, I've noticed in Swiss Asian restaurants even if they have the 3 chilli hot mark on the menu it's really not. At Sirinya's I was having a sweat on brilliant!

Yup and "Thai scharf" works better than "sehr scharf" if you're that way inclined

Yeah, I find that Ah Hua's changed in the past year or so. I've stopped going there.

Re: Needing good thai food..

I am yet to find good Thai in Lausanne, but if you are willing to broaden your tastebuds to Vietnamese, there is an excellent restaurant between Lausanne city centre and Prilly, called Indochine (av. d'Echallens 82, Tél.: 021 625 88 88). The whole package (food, service, atmosphere) is excellent! Book ahead.
