Re: Swiss Drinks (Alcoholic)

Anyone ever had Herdöpfler? I was given a bottle from a farmer in Bern. I used it in a Punch and boy did it pack one. Now I know where all the Swiss potatoes go! Never seen it on a bar menu though.

I think the difference with a Luz is that you only have very little coffee in it.
Yes. A good Kafi Luz looks like peppermint tea, and has the opposite effect.

Re: Swiss Drinks (Alcoholic)

What about the wonderful "Williams"??
It's the bottle of schnapps with the pear growing in it!
Just how do they do that????

It makes you think about the"Härdöpfeler"........!
Just how many potatoes could they get in one bottle, and would they be new potatoes, baking potatoes, King Edwards.......??

In the past the bottle was put over the blossom, on the tree, and the pear grew inside it. Nowadays the ripe pear is usually put inside the top half of the bottle and the bottom then welded on.

What's a bit strange is that some Swiss refill their pear bottle with pear-less spirit when it is half-empty. A penny saved...

"Swiss Vodka" (Härdöpfler) is a niche product, haven't had the chance to try it. Nor Swissky.

Re: Swiss Drinks (Alcoholic)

There's Williams - which is mainly paint stripper - and there's Vieille Poire from Fassbind.

Trust me, it's nectar.

(And *cough* can we stay on topic please?)
