Hello,
My son's 8th birthday is coming up. Does anybody have some suggestions of places in Basel where you could have 15 or so kids for a couple of hours? Back home we had a bit more space at home and there is also lazer tag and things like that. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Assuming the weather is okay...for our son's (1st) birthday we had a gathering at the Claramattepark which has a small adventure playground, swings etc. Migros has a party food service where you can buy pre-made sandwiches etc and we supplemented it with cakes etc.

There is also the "Youth Centre" (Jugendtreff) under the Dreirosenbrücke on the Kleinbasel side ( http://www.dreirosen.ch ) which has an indoor play area - also for birthday party hire. Follow the link "Raumangebot" - room offer - and on that page is a link to a PDF about hiring for "Geburtstäge" (Birthdays).

Also, I think the zoo has some possibilities.

It's not Basel, but we have been to a few parties held at (I don't know how to spell it) Okidok, and (some other) indoor-play-centre near Mulhouse.

== ==If you live in Binningen, Familienzentrum Binningen could be a good option for small children, I would say up to 5 or 6. There are 2 rooms, one with toys, and the other with a big table, chairs, sofas, a little kitchen, a coffe machine, and also there is a nice playground outside, with rides and a small wooden-made little house.

They charge for the morning or afternoon little money (30-40 CHF?) and you also have the option to rent some toys from the ludothek, which is on the 1st floor of the building.

Does anyone know if something like this exists in Zürich for children' birthday parties?

Closer and better for 8 year olds (slightly older things to do and wider selection) is the Lorrach Okidok indoor play area. You can hire a birthday area and various options for catering or you can just turn up and try to nab a big table (there is lots of seating). We did the birthday room thing but did our own catering. I think you should count on about 3 hours actually in the place. It is accessible by SBahn from SBB.

The easiest birthday party we have ever done. Husband and I sat drinking coffee and flicking through travel brochures for our next summer holiday .. .
