Re: Tandoori - The art of BBQ - Restaurant ZH ?

Now this place has relocated to a more select part of town, I miss its perfect situation near to my place
....and it being directly opposite Belandona. ;-)

But I recently was in the Tandoor in Zch-Seebach and had Lamb Vindaloo, a rather "non-spicy" and boring matter, really weak
Wolli, you should know by now that unless you specify exactly how you want it when you order the curry, the curries here will often be automatically made according to Swiss bland tastes.

Sadly, Tandoori BBQ has permanently closed down.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the believe the chef Chander is now cooking at Tadka in K5. The best Indian curries I've ever had are from there (and only a few hundred metres from where I work).

Yes my British-Indian friend recommended Tadka, I have been twice and while the food is great, the service both times was much too slow to justify the cooking everything fresh claim. But a nice place all the same and so if you go there know that it takes a while then that is okay. But both times we sat out in the sun. When winter comes and there are less tables available it could get frustrating if you arrive without a booking and the restaurant is full.
I miss the UK style flour poppadoms you got in Tandoori BBQ.

I didn't realise the chef was the same. But yes, the quality is high.

The owner of Tandoori BBQ told me a few months ago that he was hoping to be opening up a new place near Paradeplatz which was more convenient for tourists rather than residents but I didn't realise they they were closing the old one.

I hope they keep the flour poppadoms and the good quality of the Lamb and Spinach (Gosh Palak).

Re: Tandoori - The art of BBQ - Restaurant ZH ?

There is not much good news around at the moment but and it's a BIG but......
Tandoori BBQ has reopened finally.
I was there tonight with my wife and I am delighted to report that the quality is just as great as before.
New address Talstrasse 20 near Paradeplatz.
Alleluia!!!! :-)

Wow that is a really premium location, the rent will be crazy. Prices will surely have to go up to compensate... how much was your meal?

I really question the long-term practicality of putting an Indian restaurant in an area like that instead of in a more urban/residential area where rents are much cheaper, more residents are around and you can still make good money.

Hi there Chuff,

Well location for me is great. It is now my closest Indian restaurant after the not so good one Swaad right me. But the owner said there is no passing trade to speak of. The tourists he was counting on are not there cos of covid. But while we were there the place was half full (6 tables incl ourselves).

The prices are the same as before. The menu is the same except they dropped the Chilli Chicken.
The quality was as before, absolute perfection. But to help them on their restart we had starters and main course and naan bread; and it was toooo much. Went for a pint afterwards and couldn't finish it I was so full. :-)

I will keep going to Tadka in the future when in the vicinity as it is also good and has the nice garden in the summer/ covid times.

Thanks higgy good to know the prices are the same... maybe they got a good deal on the rent, who knows I was just speculating.

It is but a short tram ride away from me too so I will also give it a try in the not too distant future.

To be fair we didn't start to eat until 21.30 so the food (apart form the rice) wasn't very hot and the starters less crisp as they must have been in the beginning.
What was the choice / availability like?

The problem with many of these all-you-can-eat / buffet places is that they don't or only partially replenish, meaning that if you go there late, a lot of the stuff (and especially the highlights) will have run out. But you still pay the same price.

Which may be a reason to opt for a la carte.
