Restaurant Tips - Reasonable eats in Zurich

Hey everyone,

I thought I'd start this thread for good, reasonably priced food in Zurich. By this I mean something like meat dinner + beer/wine for about CHF30. A casual place where you can decide on the night that you don't feel like cooking and have a good meal there. Type of place you'd consider if you wanted to eat out 2-3 times a week.

My picks... (excuse the cut + paste from the restaurants thread)

Beyond – this is Shanghainese/Chinese food where the staff from the Chinese Embassy go to eat. They have two menus – one is normal “trendy” menu where they also have Thai stuff, but they have another menu …. And the food is quite different. This is just across the road from the Hbf, on the Landesmuseum side.
Restaurant Beyond
Zollstr. 20
8005 Zürich

Tiffins – great trendy thai food. Can be crowded but the speedy service does keep the tables moving. Probably not the type of place you'd stay for a long chat at the end of the meal (unless it's not crowded) http://www.tiffins.ch/start.html

Lily's - not as good as Tiffins, but even open on a Sunday and there's home delivery. http://www.lilys.ch/

Roi Et – really good Thai place. It’s not “trendy” but there are plenty of delicate flavours in the food. Very extensive menu for such a small place. Bus Stop: 31/32 Militairestrasse, off Langstrasse. Address: Schöneggstrasse 30, 8004

Baeck & Brau - I love the atmosphere. http://www.backundbrau.ch. The place that replaced the one on Universitaetstrasse, still keeps the same style and brews its own beer.

Anyone else have any personal picks for normal everyday places that is affordable?

Thanks,
Nanda.

Two of our favorite inexpensive places, where the food is very good are:

Bahnhof Buffet
Seebahnstrasse 33
8002 Zürich (Wiedikon)

This is a very simple place, the type you can go to at the last minute and you will usually find a table waiting and very good food. Three menus daily ranging from Sfr 15-22. Nothing fancy, just a casual atmosphere and reliably good food: http://www.beffa-gastro.ch/wiedikon.html

Delicato Restaurant
Uraniastrasse 40
8001 Zurich

Located in Central Zurich, this is a small casual cafe that serves good quality Greek snacks and light menus. While a fairly simple menu, this place is authentic. All of the employees are Greek. Menus cost about Sfr 19. A large beer is Sfr 5.50
