Re: Sunday Brunch in Zurich

Forum Bar end of langstr and opposite the kino. Do fabulous pancakes. Although can be smokey.

Korma Sutra (Witikonerstr) 29 chfs for a buffet style brunch - the usual things but with indian eggs, some curry etc. Very friendly staff and good with kids. Can sit out front in the nice weather. Good curry for evenings as well.

Imagine - WAS the best place for brunch before it became so popular. Service is slow but the best brunch for the price. Definitely need to reserve these days.

Also Geisseri in Oerlikon but it's steep at 44chfs

Re: Sunday Brunch in Zurich

I was at Imagine today for the first time and for me it was very disappointing. It wasnt a "real" sunday brunch, especially because their (very few, thin, light colored) pankakes were crap and it was sort of desolate, not like other places where ppl stand in rows to get their freshly made omelets.. The selection was very low, only a few fruits (3 kinds of melon and thats it), and no "real" food.. it was like some "swiss boring diet brunch for ppl who dont want to eat" not to mention that we had to ask and wait for the waitress to bring a small cup of coffee every time, only once or twice in an hour instead of a self-service one or having a 1L jar. Seriously I don't really understand ppl who pay for an "all you can eat" service and then have a gipfeli with a tea.

The Londonstore guy in Zug told me Bubbles (?) does the best fry up in Zurich.

Anyone know anything about Bubbles?

Wouldn't mind having someone else make my Sunday lunch (can't even pretend I make it up in time for breakfast, or brunch for that matter)....
Bubbles is great! They do the full english thing (quite well done), the service is always friendly, unless you are an arsehole. They have a bookshelf there with a few english books to read - my personal favourite being the hitch-hikers series (these books are for sale but a bit pricey).
Last year they were running an english quiz-night on Monday nights, and regular discussions of the philosophical nature - these are normally in german but I'm sure if enough of you want to go off on one it english it would be alright, the owner is that nice.
It's a small place but a great atmosphere and getting more popular as the population expands.
To get there.... don't know the street name but if you go to the Cooperativo you can see it from there.... I know that's vague but space is of the premium here in Zürich and the seat you take may be mine..... not even going to tell you where the BEST place is.

I still haven't made it there.

Lob - Should we try it one lunchtime instead of the bacon cheese?

Went there a couple of weeks ago for Sunday brunch after serious drinking session! The full English is good with heinz beans and they do proper bacon (i.e. medallions and not the streaky fatty stuff).

En guete!

http://map.search.ch/8004-zuerich/strassburgstr.5

It's run by a cooperative, I think it used to be Italian communists, but I think they are in financial difficulties. The one and only time I was there the waiter told me he was KGB...

As for brunch recommendations, I recently tried the following:

Kaffi Schnapps http://map.search.ch/8037-zuerich/kornhausstr.57
Simple food, typical Kreis 4/5 style.

Sprüngli http://map.search.ch/8001-zuerich/bahnhofstr.21
I love the food, but you may have to wait for a few minutes before finding a seat.
(I think they're under construction this summer.)

Almodobar http://map.search.ch/8002-zuerich/bleicherweg-68
Reservation required, which is why we never went there again.

Re: Sunday Brunch in Zurich

The KunstHaus also has a very nice all you can eat Sunday brunch for CHF 33, which includes a free drink. It has a tendency to be quite crowded so reservations are recommended. They have meats and cheeses, fruit, muesli, joghurt, a couple of hot dishes usually including some sort of potatos and meet, lots of fresh juice, and a bunch of different breads.

Great place to go with some friends and hang out for the morning. Especially when the weather is bad, like it has been in Zurich

Hi Nicky,

Gisserei is only about 5 mins walk from Oerlikon station. Have a look at their Lageplan : http://www.diegiesserei.ch/001fga_0602_de.htm

Have only been for dinner, but the food, service and unique setting are all superb!

Re: Sunday Brunch in Zurich

i went to Bohemia on Sunday. Opted for a full english and was quite dissapointed. The sausages were not pork, beans were harricot mixed with a homemade tomato sauce. Bacon was just weird and the toast was very dry.

Does anyone know of a better full english gaff ?

If you want something resembling a full english then try Bubbles. They do proper bacon medallions rather than streaky bacon, sausage, heinz beans, eggs (fried or scrambled), mushrooms, tomato and toast.

.
It´s not that they have financial difficulties, the city has refused to renew their contract - it has been, as you say, run as a cooperative for a long time, but now it´s going to be another yuppie(do we still have yuppies in the 21 century?)/chic place... which is a real shame as there are enough of those in ZH.

Re: Sunday Brunch in Zurich

Just to get my tuppence worth in here, I have been recommended Bubbles by different people, so it must be good. Not been yet myself as on the weekend I have a wee daughter in tow, and the smokey atmosphere descriptions put me off. Apart from that there is always the ubiquitous Papa Joes for a later brunch/lunch. Mmmmmmmm SPECIAL RIBS !!!!!

English Breakfast is always great in the Twist, at Rindermarkt six.

And Papa Joe`s ( Hotel Californie) also serve a quite good breakfast, pancakes with maple sirup, yummie......
