hmmmm...really?? I beg to differ my dear! Maybe it's just the company you keep

Travelling most of the world solo has been one of the most amazingly life-enriching things I have ever done with my life.

The people and places I have met and seen could never compare to looking at the bottom of a mixing bowl...

OP - Life is for living, it's not a dress rehearsal, and not believing in reincarnation, I don't think we get a second chance. This being the case, don't wish your life away, waiting for your OH to get back.

Enjoy the opportunity to be utterly selfish - you can do what you want, when you want, for whatever reason you want! (within legal parametres, naturellement! )
I think you are confusing commuting, travelling with spiritual journeys of self awareness and discovery.

But I like your ideas about being selfish and doing what you want for whatever reason you want. Who said the hippy 60s are over.

Looking at the bottom of a mixing bowl is like a spiritaul journey and can sometimes make you realise that, its actually empty at the bottom, despite all the ingredients it has on top. Infact no matter how much ingredients you have on top, too much movement and stirring would make it look empty, one needs stillness to be fully aware of what one has.

I would like to point out that I don't really have a wife or kids LulZ (but as I sense a bit of sarcasm I'm not gonna thank you just yet :-p)
So your earlier comment being Count Ugly and attention whoring stands?

I was not being sarcastic, I would'nt even know what sarcasm is. Im just dumb and blunt.

Well being the ugly count that I am, having alone time comes as second nature, and after years and years of loathing my appearance and whoreing for attention on the internets I learned to love the beautiful me within...

Ok I digress, I guess having a wife and three kids I would love to have some alone time now!

Re: Three months alone

I can understand the feeling - comimg home to an empty flat. Coffe cup and what was left of breakfast still in the same place as when I left in the morning. After having been together for 16 years my wife walked out on me early this year - wow, did the flat feel empty!

Right - empty! The first thing I understood was that the place needed to be de- emptified. Fill it up with things I feel good about. Get myself a sofa according to MY taste and not some silly compromise none of us was happy with.

To make time go by quickly most post suggest some good things to do - my contribution is to make the place where you live cozy and attractive for yourself.

My place doesn't feel as empty anymore and I look forward to going home every day thanks to all the personal additions I made. I hope you can adjust to this new situation quickly, you'll be surprised how quickly time goes by.

I will hopefully be joining a concert band after Christmas (I don't have my horn with me... not sure I can bring it back here, but I can at least bring the mouthpiece and borrow a horn!). I'm hoping this will be a good way to meet people, but it's so hard to integrate in this area. I don't have any Swiss friends here, it's such a shame. It's not just about having friends, though. I find coming home to an empty house horribly depressing. I don't really know how to feel like I'm not alone in the place I should feel the most comfortable.
Join a "Guge music" ,the mouthpiece will due

Hmmm... not sure I like the sound of that! It's ok, I think it'll probably a good think to practise blowing the French horn while he's away (that's funnier if you know my partner's French).

Consider this a perfect opportunity for you to get to know the truly most important person in your life -- YOU! What a blessing! Discover new layers to your experience of yourself, and even take a minute to figure out how you can possibly feel lonely when you have YOU. :-D
I assume you're talking about masturbation. Agreed.

Re: Three months alone

This 3 months has just turned into 4 months and I couldn't bring my horn back with me That and now he's doing field work and we can't even talk to each other properly (about 2 minutes a day as it stands).

I've tried to keep myself busy, but ultimately I come home and I feel miserable. I feel like my flat is a prison. I don't have pots of money to spend travelling and seeing people I care about. Christmas was a nice break to see friends and family, but now I'm back and I've been plunged straight back into the horrible mood I was in before. It doesn't help that people have been saying "chin up". One of my pet hates is when you feel down and people basically say "don't worry", like how you feel doesn't even matter.

I'm worried I'm going to turn into some kind of recluse. I think I'm just going to have to hold on until February when my mum is going to come and visit.

Oh, happy new year by the way

Re: Three months alone

New year's resolution : join your local gym.. it has been my life savour here.. especially if you're alone you can easily spend 2/3 hours at weekends : working out, classes, sauna etc...what a treat!

By the way, if we do get our visas sorted and live for Hong KOng.. I will also stay here alone 3 months before I join my husband there.. But the only difference is that I'll have our 2 kids to take care... you have too much time on your own and I will not have enough!

That would be a great idea if I didn't live in a studio flat. It's a shame the EF scene isn't more lively in Neuch...

don't worry... we don't need much to have fun... we can start at your place than hit the local watering holes... as an incentive please keep in mind that your main squeeze will not necessarily sit home and pray to your picture... just sayin'
