YES~ there were a bunch of people in the center of lausanne giving out ribbons and info. i have a cousin who died of aids as well as a very good friend who lives with it- good idea for a post to remind people who aren't aware!
In Mexico, teenagers aren't really scared of AIDS. It's weird but, since they didn't have the campaigns and massive awareness of known people getting it (Magic Johnson) they just don't seem to get it. It sucks.
one of my worst fears is actually getting HIV/AIDS.
An interesting op-ed piece here as well. The most poignant lines for me are:
"I'll never forget how the "homophobic agenda" was on full display when the audience in the studio of "The Arsenio Hall Show" cheered loudly when Magic told them he was not gay. But Magic wasn't telling the black community that if you're straight, then you're safe. He was telling them HIV/AIDS doesn't care.
But in the midst of the community's misguided glee, it missed the point, and consequently, in the 30 years after the CDC's announcement and in the 20 years since Magic's announcement, HIV/AIDS has gone from being just a gay disease to also a black disease."
Ignorance and bigotry don't look good on anyone... Educate yourself. HIV/AIDS knows no boundaries.
And remember if you use a not out of date condom which doesn't fail and is used properly there is 0 chance of the HIV virus passing through the condom.
When a condom fails it doesn't leak...it will split open.

In all reality, having worked in polymer processing, that 0 chance statistic is blatenly false. Most of the best condom manufacturing facities aren't even close to six sigma (essentially 1 mistake in 10 million).
But you are right with the idea. If you use your condoms and use them properly, and your risks drops exponentially.

But if there is a mistake in the condom it will fail and possibly tear open?
Unfortunately, not necessarily. Ideally yes, but not all the time.
he be right. the fault can be at the "non visible range" in separeated enough areas as to not create a significant compromise to the overall structure.
I'm a married man. It's of no issue to me.... I just think there is a lot of misinformation of sperm and other diseasing passing through a condom as if it's some sort of filter....when it's not.

I lost two friends to this disease. Today is a day to remember those who have passed before us, a day to celebrate those who are still fighting for their lives each day, and a day to remind ourselves that the fight is still not over.. and that prejudice, fear and discrimination still remains.
