Friends, Friendship, Death and Life

Monday, a friend of mine had a heart attack in London, the good news is he has survived (this time). He was there on business, he lives elsewhere and his family even farther away in another country. Someone put that emergency plan into action, the one that I never thought would be used. I was the closest and could get to his side the fastest. Without getting into details, this meant several people had to reconcile with past and just concentrate on what is really important; how much we all love and care for this man.

Sitting next to a man I have known for 32 years and seeing him toeing the "other side" put many things into persepective for me, not only how much his life means to me, but also how much other peoples do and even my own.

I am far from being a saint and have taken some people for granted; but almost losing him has had some good- I remembered what is important and realized that I was not living the life that I should. While I was there, I called my daughter and found out her BF had had an operation and there had been complications. Thankfully, this young man is doing better and he should no longer be in danger, although he is still bleeding. This was another reminder of how precious the people in my life are.

****

This is the season when I think of how much I miss people. But ,from what has just happened, I am is reminded of what is really important.... caring and loving while them now, while they are alive.

****

If you don't see me posting for a couple of days, it means I've had to fly back to the UK. I know this is a lot to ask but if you have a moment to spare put in a kind thought for my friend- he is only 47 and it's too early for him to go.

And I will do the same for you- life counts.

Re: Friends, Friendship, Death and Life

This is the first thread I read today and it made me feel quite emotional!
Yes indeed, life is precious and at times, we just forget to appreciate and care for what we have and feel sad for what we don't.

Best wishes to your friend and your daughter's BF.

You're right - these kind of events seem to polarise many issues and realities in life.
Hang in there - I'm sure there are many people thinking of you.

Re: Friends, Friendship, Death and Life

Hi J.L-P - my thoughts go out to you and your family. Yes, your heartfelt thoughs are appreciated. My brother just had heart surgery 4 days ago. He had his first heart attack at 36! Much too young of course! The same for your friend. It is a journey loving from afar! It is amazing what modern medicine can do! My brother has had 2 other heart attacks since then. He had a final stint placed in a blocked artery the other day! Wow! Blessings to you on this journey! Your insight is powerful! Thank you for sharing! L

Re: Friends, Friendship, Death and Life

I had a similar experience last year when my father had a major heart attack in New Zealand. Thankfully after another heart attack and surgery to insert stents he is doing well but it did make me think a lot about the lack of a relationship that I have with my only sibling.

I wish your young friend all the very best and hope that your next trip back to the UK is for a wonderful warm hug and to spend some wonderful fun time together.
My thoughts, prayers and best wishes are with you all.

Re: Friends, Friendship, Death and Life

I would like to thank everyone for their show of caring and a special thought goes to Ms.Welchs brother.

Also, I would like to thank those who work in the medical field; everyone of them works so hard and shares the most intimate moments of life. Through the tears and distress of patients, family and friends, they keep coming in and do their job... with empathy.

Again, thank you all and kind thoughts to everyone.

Re: Friends, Friendship, Death and Life

Hello J.L-P

Thank you for sharing your feelings and being so open. I wish your friend all the very best and he is so very fortunate to have a such a caring and loving friend as you are.

You are right. Too often we take too much for granted and do not value and cherish those closest to our hearts until - at times - it's just too late . . . Your sincere and heartfelt post is a reminder that we should not leave things until such time nothing can be done about it and we are left with nothing but regrets and sorrow, but to take action now and show them we care whilst it is still possible to do so.

Best wishes
Ishaka
