Re: This year's flu - Damn...!

same goes for me. I have been sick for ten days now and unfortunately due to short-staffing in the office i cannot take any days off.

Originally I believe I got the sickness from my 2year old daughter who -ever since she started the preschool- managed to pick at least a flu a week from her friends.

coughing is the worst.. since when it starts during night, you fear to wake up the two-year old. Additionally my joints are all feeling terribly weak

Not an option for everyone - had one once and ended up really, really sick. Worse than flu.
I'll add that apparently now it appears to be our friendly H1N1 that's currently doing the rounds.
So with all those vaccinations, why so many have fallen sick?

Back to bed now.... :-/

Does anyone else have white spots and swollen tonsils? I have all the flu symptom plus this! Maybe it's not flu after all!

Re: This year's flu - Damn...!

tip for those puking their guts up... Eat food that tastes the same coming up as it did going down. For example, apple and toast = good, orange or anything with dairy = bad.

oh, and if you have problems at the other end... do not eat grapes or sultanas or any derivatives thereof, else your symptoms will persist.

I suggest this might be your achilles with the flu.

With the flu I normally get pharongitis, my husband gets all the aches worse, my son gets the vomits and my daughter gets a longlasting headcold

Re: This year's flu - Damn...!

Well an update from us. Been to the doctor twice this week with the girls. Both ended up needing antibiotics. The little one had signs of a bronchiatis and an ear infection. I heard that the H1N1 virus is doing the rounds. I have also read recently that 2 thirds of the people with the flu in Switzerland at the moment actually have this virus. If anyone is interested here is the article, unfortunately only in German..sorry

Re: This year's flu - Damn...!

New Years Eve Flu Strategy:

Now - 1400. Vomit to get it out of my system. Although, since I have had only had a cookie maybe I can shorten this. Somehow ingest 1 gram of Vitamin C, aspirin, ibupropen and some Fanta.

1400 - 1600. Nap until VC wakes me or alarm.

1600 - 1630. Get Miss L-P to the right train station while flu-driving (yesterday I drove to the store via Bern). Buy baguette, I have no idea why I need one other than I am French and one is always needed.

1630 - 2030. Another gram of VC, and the other stuff. Iron top; do not deviate from chosen outfit. Trowel on the I-don't-have-the-flu-makeup, brush Chi-hair off of coat. And hair, need to do hair and put on clothes.

1630 - 2030. Unscheduled, scheduled vomitting; last permitted of the evening.

2035. Open door gracefully.

2045. Grip counter while getting drinks repeating "I can do this, I can do this.".

2110. Alcohol and flu relaxation to set in; last chance to give instructions on where we are to go to whomever I open the door to.

2111 - 0400 Stay upright (holding on is permitted), smile, resist nausea and put keys in mailbox.

Did I forget something?

Space those puppies out a few hours from each other, or you might really feel like shite. Or so they say.

Yep, alternated every 4 hours. The voice of Dr. Evil aka the P in J.L-P still resonates in my brain (everyone please pray 2011 he will be forever silenced).

Edit: you mentioned "puppies" without mentioning "the puppies"... gawd, the fever makes me blab.

So it seems everyone and their dog is bedridden with this godforsaken flu.
Me, I'm coughing, have a sore throat, bronchitis, back pains (!), sweating spells since the afternoon of the 25th ... my wife has had all of the above + stomach problems as well (but started 2 days later).

Last night I was trying to fall asleep and my legs kept on twitching compulsively, as if a puppetteer was pulling my strings. Crazy!
I never knew that the flu could affect the nervous system in this way

How is the rest of the bedridden community out there doing?

Paul

P.s. Advice - if you have any kind of bronchial affection (coughing etc) it is important that you do not eat cheese or milk based products as they increase the density and quantity of phlegm! So if you're thinking of downing your favourite hot preparation, just hold the milk (and abund with the alchohol and honey instead )
Hmm, don't think I've ever had flu in my life, I just don't get sick (must be all the bacteria laden foods I eat).

The only time I've been bedridden in memory was five years ago after surgery to remove a bursitis above my knee (that I got as a result of dumping my bike at 80 kph, luckily I was wearing full leathers WITH knee protection), and I had to spend two weeks in a leg brace with my leg elevated.

Dear Tom,

Cool story bro... but I think the "superpeople never get sick" thread is elsewhere. Now could you be a dear by picking up 3 or 4 boxes of used tissues laying around the beds. Also crack on with the 2 weeks of washing that has been put off.. I hope that all the bedding with vomit was cleaned enough from a simple rinse cycle.

Now into my third week of flu, thought I was getting better but last few days have seen a poor chest come back. It's not the severity of the symptoms, just the lingering fatigue that gets/keeps me down.

Re: This year's flu - Damn...!

I only have a cold, but just about panicked as I realized I didn't buy kleenex. And now the stores are closed until Monday, unless I go to the Luzern train station. Fortunately I seem to be well stocked and should make it until then. Not the way I wanted to start the new year.

Nice advantage of radiant floor heating. Just lay down on the floor for a full-body hot pad.

*ACHOO*

ETA: The Co-op sounded like a sick ward and it was mostly empty.

Brother - I hear you... swear I do.
Really bugs the cr*p out of me. I don't want to draw this stuff on and on, as I can materially see just how debilitating it is both in terms of weight + muscle loss (not that had a bodybuilding physique mind you, but I can really see how much mass I've lost ). I was really looking ahead to being nicely fit before snowboarding again (after 10 years) and going into the new mountainbiking season. Looks potentially compromised now, from the way I feel
And despite all the hours spent in the bedroom - very little exercise going on in that dep't as well

Re: This year's flu - Damn...!

That usually means a sinus infection, and those can linger for weeks without antibiotics, and I do not use antibiotics lightly... In the last 10 years, maybe 4 times and 3 of those were for sinus infections.

Good luck!

Darn you! It took me 20 minutes to find my top and along the way (errr, in ironing) I found another dress. Flu time is not the time for this.

I do have a question though, heels or boots with heels or do I go in moonboots (with bling) and check them in and change?

Crimity, I am burning up.
