Hypnosis, your opinion?

Hello,

I am interested of your opinion on hypnosis used to get rid of bad habits, change attitude, heal phobia, lose weight, etc.

Anyone has experience to share with us?

Read up on it. It can be a way to train yourself via subliminal suggestion. But you have to practice a lot. I've not done it, but I have done a lot of meditative things and calming by association and those can help.

And no, you will not quack like a duck if you see a piece of chocolate or some other silly thing.

Apparently some got great succes to stop smoking and I heard also that you can use the hypnosis to get yourself ready and able to manage the pain of labor.

Same as using it to manage all kind of pain or even to lose weight.

I can believe that about pain management. It think it has a lot to do with breathing and concentration.

As with any pseudo science, humour abounds...

It has itself to blame, it grew up on stage and for the most part, made people laugh.

It's dangerous stuff. Messing around in areas of the brain we know very little about. That isn't saying it doesn't work, heck , even trepanning was effective...

Re: Hypnosis, your opinion?

I learned how to do self hypnotic before (not that I'm always succeed though)...
It's actually fine if you try to do it by yourself but I think it's best if you could have a mentor on this (I had one).

I know that if someone professional do the hypnotic on you, the result is more obvious but if you did it yourself it's not that obvious. It'll take time or it'll improve little by little and not significantly over a day.

The easiest way for self hypnotic is through meditation.

The rules for the message that you want to put in your head is quite simple actually:
  1. keep it short and simple, it's something that you could remember straight away upon hearing, not something that you need to hear more than once to remember if someone just said it to you.
  2. no negative (no, not), your mind don't recognize the no. so if your message is "I don't look like a monkey" then your mind remember "I look like a monkey" so... NO!! put it like "I'm pretty" instead

My message to myself was "I'll always think positive" because it's hard for me to do before, and now I worried much less and much more positive thinker, so it works

I heard that the magic spell could also work even without meditation. For example: see yourself in the mirror, smile and say "you're very pretty" every time before and after you go to sleep every single day.

If you're too afraid to have other people toying with your mind (like I do), trying yourself is much more fun

Re: Hypnosis, your opinion?

I found a website where you can download free hypnosis sessions.
I tried it and of course, you have to listen to it first and see if it is going to fit with what you want to work on. But it is a serious website and they don't put crap on it.

My first attemt, I felt asleep. The guy said it is ok if you don't follow all the instructions and if you even stop taking care of what it is said.

One things is that it was the best power nap I had in ages!

Re: Hypnosis, your opinion?

I had a boyfriend many years ago who went to a group hypnosis session to quit smoking/ He was very sceptical but amazed when afterwards he felt sick at the thought of smoking and he stayed off them for a year.

I went to a course on hypnosis for birth and it was great for helping to relax, and to feel in control. If doesn't get rid of pain but you get in a mindset where you notice it less, a bit like endurance athletes in a race (my analogy, being a marathon runner).

TV hypnosis shows are sensationalist and rely on audience members being willing participants in silliness, no one can be made to do something 'under hypnosis' that goes against their instincts.

I had a little experience performing entertaining hypnosis.

The only thing I feel strongly suggest to everyone interested in anything like the things you cited is to go to a serious psychotherapist! If he's serious and good a couple of private sit may solve many things, but don't let the first ebook downloaded from the internet mess with your head.
