I have searched the forum but have been unable to find the answer to my question - apologies if I have missed this.

I am trying to sort out the necessary paperwork to claim child allowance for my daughter. Myself and my partner (my daughters father) are not married.

I am unclear as to what paperwork is needed. I raised this with my employer but I do not have confidence that they gave me the correct information (I had to insist in applying for this as they were reluctant due to the "administration effort"!)

I understand I need to submit my daughters' birth certificate and the certificate that states that my partner recognizes my daughter as his.

My employer also said that I need to provide a certificate that states that my partner will take on the financial responsibility for my daughter, however he did not know what this certificate was called.

Does anyone have experience on this topic? Is the certificate of recognition called the "mitteilung einer Kindesanerkennung vor der geburt" (I am assuming it is but it would be lovely to have this clarified). Does anyone know if the financial certificate is definitely required? If so, does anyone know what the official name of the certificate is?

We are in the French part so I don't know the official name for this document in German. Is your daughter already born? We got the paternity recognition document from the Zivilamt (? in German) and according to OH, this financial document will follow at some point (when child is born??). They gave us a copy so we see what it is like (according to OH - just hope he's not trying to escape his admin duties ) - basically it's a statement of how much money OH would contribute should you split, how custody of child is shared etc. Did they mention anything about the financial aspect when you went to do the paternity recognition? Perhaps the Zivilamt can give you more information?
I don't think that this financial document is required for the children's allowance - I think I just have to supply the birth cert. In addition, there is also (at least where I am) a one-off "birth allowance", and this is given to the person with the higher salary (perhaps evidence of your OH's salary is required for this and your employer has confused the two )

In my experience the father claims the Familienzulagen, it is paid by the Familienausgleichskasse with his monthly salary. He would need the childrens' birth certificates showing he is the father. He should take these together with his work contract to his company's Personalabteilung for forwarding the Photocopies to the Arbeitgebendenausgleichskassen.

If he is not going to claim the money, then you have to get a certificate from his company's Familienausgleichskassen, stating that they are not paying out the Familienzulagen.
