We're looking for a babysitter for our 1 yr old son for an occasional night out, perhaps once or twice a month. We live in Muri (Bern), close to public transport.

I also live in Muri ( Gumligen) and we have struggled finding one. I hope you will have more luck than us because we've been able to go out 3 times in 18 months since we're here. I got a babysitter list from the Eltern club, but it's not updated. so many babysitters on this list aren;t available anymore.

I do know one girl though, with whom I work at the Mueze zentrum but she lives in Ostermundingen and only speaks german. Living in Ostermundingen means she would have to stay overnight at your if you don't mind. I will see her tomorrow wednesday.

I also used to have a great babysitter and her sister but they are now away for the year. They will be back end of June and live in my area. I can ask them when they're back if you want.

We got our first babysitter by putting up a notice at the Gemeinde offices. We stipulated that they must have done the Red Cross babysitters course. It worked well and we had a few people to choose from. None of them spoke English and at the time my son did not speak German but it did not seem to matter! What was nice was that the girls (and one boy) who applied were local and we met their parents too, and we knew when the girl we chose was sitting, that her mother was a few streets away if anything went drastically wrong, which, it didn't.
