Toddler's first accident

Hi All,

ok, so it has finally happened. Last night, My 2 year old fell face first on the pavement. The front tooth went right through her lower lip leaving a nasty gash. I got her to Triemli spital (Notfall) (which was the first spital I could think of in the confusion) where she was anaesthethised and had 4 stitches put in.

Now this is the first time she has ever had an accident that required this level of medical attention so I am not really sure if there is anything else I should do. I was asked to bring her in again to see the doctors in 2 days for an assessment of the stitches and also to contact our insurance which I have done this morning ( I just called them over the phone and they made a note of it and said they would call me back if they required any further information).

Is there anything else I should do? Should I write to the company instead of calling them? Is there any other person/company that I should inform of the accident?

thanks for reading

M

Re: Toddler's first accident

Our insurance company sent us forms to complete detailing what happened and who witnessed the accident.

Don't panic. The process is quite simple. For an accident, they'll send you forms (as MarieZug said). You fill them in and send them back. Any bills you receive related to medical treatment you send to the insurer.

This is very important so that everything is on record. This way if there are any problems later on, e.g., if the permanent tooth dies, it will be covered by insurance.

Read the form carefully, you have to fill it and send it back usually in 10 days(unless mentioned otherwise).

Re: Toddler's first accident

thank you so much for the kind replies. As you can imagine, I am probably more traumatized and confused than she is. I know kids have accidents all the time but it doesn't really stop one from feeling miserable and guilty!

For future reference, (and I am not hoping for a repeat!), is this the best course of action (going to Triemli spital notfall or could i have gone some place else?) The reason I ask is because if this happened in the UK, I would have rushed her to our nearest A&E which is why I headed for Triemli spital but would like to hear what others would do in a situation like this.

thanks

Maryann
