[help wanted] Any advice on how to stop from loosing hair is greatly appreciated

Hello all,
Since I moved to Switzerland a year ago, I started to loose huge amount of hair. I tried to take the capsule from Bayer, but it didn't work. I am getting very worried. Some say it's because of the water quality here. There is quite some calcium in the water. Anyone has any advice?

I haven't heard of minerals causing hair loss, but could be.. Are you a woman? No major hormonal imbalances? Hormonal treatments? Thyroid? Sometimes hair loss is caused by irregular cycle causing hormonal imbalance, sometimes it is major stress, etc. Try getting Biotin in your pharmacy, a 3mo treatment is expensive but B vits helped me a lot. I do shed regularly every fall/spring, though, just like most mammals

for a woman it is unlikely to be caused by water but can be caused by: medication, hormonal problems, stress, menopause, alopecia.

Best to see a doctor.

Sometimes, women who have recently given birth, loose hair. Or they loose it during pregnancy, it is something to do with hormones!

Good luck.

hair loss for a woman can be pretty traumatic. a bit like a bloke who's been diagnosed as infertile.

EDIT

I responded to PlantHead who has now deleted his post

have you not been to see a doctor, surely this would be your best move? hair loss in women is rarely a cosmetic issue

Re: [help wanted] Any advice on how to stop from loosing hair is greatly appreciated

I know it is really pricey. But it did help, not immediately, about a month after I finished the whole 3mo treatment thing. Also, if you lose weight, some people lose weight. Any changes in metabolism, or extreme sport does it too, to some. Good luck, sucks, but usually it corrects itself. I had a terrible hair loss after a loss of baby, and birth of another one, gettin on a pill, nursing is also crazy on hair.

Since you are female and it happens suddenly, I would not just google for hair loss stuff - these things are targeted at guys like me who lose them for hormonal reasons.

In your case, don't mix up cause and effect. You lose hair because something is wrong. Maybe you changed your diet a lot since you moved or maybe there is in fact an undetected medical problem causing it as a side effect. So don't try to fix your hair, try to fix your body. A visit to a doctor is the only reasonable answer.

Did you move to Switzerland from a warm climate? I know a few people who moved from Asia that have suffered vitamin D deficiency. Due to the sudden lack of sun. I don't know if there could be a connection but thinning hair was amongst their complaints.

Why don't you go to the doctor for a complete blood test?
I was loosing a lot of hair and for other reasons I went to the doctor. After a blood test she told me to take iron and after some months I realized that my hair was stronger. Perhaps you are missing something too. Doctors are there to help us. I'm sure they will find a solution.

Hi, Low iron levels can cause hair loss. Check your Iron and Ferretine(reserve iron). In fact you can go to a blood testing centre yourself and check for Haemoglobin for anaemia, and also iron levels. I believe this does not require a doctors prescription, as it is a basic test. In the result sheet it will tell you the expected normal levels as well. Then you can go to a doctor if they are low.
Hope that helps.

Probably stress. Go to a doctor. Get bill. Insurance pays.

sorry, not to sound negative about some posters advice but it is not helpful to give a web diagnosis and say that its stress. it's best to see a doctor.

Yeah, it is always the best to see a doc, I wouldn't count on any posters here prioritize anonymous tips found online to a real advice of a trained specialist. But, in the meantime, until OP finds her way to the doc office, we can speculate and brainstorm, riiiiiiite...

More specifically you might want to go see a dermatologist rather than a GP.

I would get a reference first for a good dermatologist, maybe from GP if that person is good. Endocrinologists also help with hair loss questions.

Does your hair seem to come out when you wash your hair or is it on the pillow when you wake up?

So many factors come into the reasons. Hormones/stress - not enough minerals due to diet.

Try not to get too worried as that will make it worse and make that Drs appt!!
