Swiss deliver blow to recycled cardboard for food packaging...

'Frightening' potential

Government scientists in Switzerland found quantities of mineral oils between 10 and 100 times above the agreed limit in foods like pasta, rice and cereals sold in cartons made from recycled cardboard.

Exposure to mineral oils has been linked to inflammation of internal organs and cancer.

A smile on my face... with my boots on... of old age, sounds better to me then being done in by a box of pasta.

It could do wonders for Tupperware sales.

If the oils come from printing inks, won't they still be on the cardboard even with non-recycled?

Should we worry about the printing ink everywhere else? What about drinks cartons?

Quick! Everyone panic and rush out and buy FRESH food.

It's the inks from re-cycled newspapers and not the new packaging.

I am glad that I rarely buy newspapers then. What happens to all that black ink on people's hands as they sit reading their papers on the trains in the morning?

Don't most breakfast cereals come with an inner packaging of plastic? I'm pretty sure all the asbestos I was exposed to in my youth protects me from evils like this, plus years as a grease monkey, now Mobil slide way and spindle oil... I guess I will have to stick to non-platic lined Grape Nuts to keep up my toxin battling momentum .

According to the study this stuff penetrated the inner packaging; unless it was unusually thick - whatever that meant...
