Re: Pregnant wife needs watermelon now

Have you tried Globus or Jelmoli food hall? One of those would be my first thought for weird/out-of-season produce.

Good luck!

Re: Pregnant wife needs watermelon now

If you can't get the real thing, just get her water melon candy or gum, or drinks (ice tea in Migros). Works too. And tell her to switch her cravings to apples, cheaper and more accessible. Apple juice, apples, etc. The sour taste eases cravings, and nausea, you will see, just feed her some pealed bits of fresh apples, she will be happy...

Re: Pregnant wife needs watermelon now

Thanks for your messages, I have just visited all major (if we can say so) supermarkets and small ethnic stores around Lausanne centre. Nothing.

I brought her fantastic strawberries and I will keep trying the watermelon. My colleagues commuting from France are aware and if you actually see a watermelon I would be very grateful if you could mention the address/link/phone for us to grab it. Zurich is a bit far but doable if we can't find around.

Re: Pregnant wife needs watermelon now

Just a thought - have you tried the city street markets?
Sometimes small stallholders are some of the first to get produce items, before the big store chains, at or near the start of the season.

Re: Pregnant wife needs watermelon now

Apparently, through our winter, watermelons are grown and exported from some Central and South American countries.
Whether they make it this far (or just to N. America), and at what cost, remains to seen.
