Try a few stores, cuts and sizes then? Don't be shy about going to places like C&A, H&M and even a triple-M Migros to try on a few. Some of my best-fitting bras are from those shops. While the most expensive ones are flung into a corner of the lingerie drawer, seldom worn.

Re: Decent bra fitting service in Basel?

Ladies you probably know all this anyway but I'm gonna have a pop at it nonetheless.

There was an interesting feature on 'extra' the other night that suggested up to 80% of women have a false fitting bra and that over 50% of sales staff in an experiment made false measurments.

Naturally wanting the best for my lady I paid full attention (although it was in German so here's my interpretation).

Basically for band size take a tight measurment with empty lungs under the puppies. Then a full measurement over them. The diff between the 2 measurments gives you cup size... 14cm = A cup, 16cm = B cup, 18cm = C cup etc...

Alternatively you could do the measurments yourself and stick them into a bra size calculator.

I think Comparis are missing out here!

From an amateur male point of view, it surprised me that she measured you while you wer fully dressed. It seemed to me that all she was doing was measuring the bra you were wearing.

It may be just wishful thinking, but I would have expected a bra measurement to be taken with the boobies out.
I believe that measurements for bras are taken with the bras on because otherwise the sag factor skews the measurement somewhat. You want to measure at the fullest when everything is where you want it to be, not necessarily where it heads naturally.

So far, the best fitting I've had was at Lane Bryant in the US - the reason for it being better (for me) though is that they're trained to take fat into account. They take three measurements instead of just the two.

One under breast for rib cage (band size), one at fullest part of bust and the third above and slightly angled so that you factor in any "back fat" (I know, not something folks like to think about). I wish I could remember how the math was done figuring in this third measurement BUT it provided best cup fit I've had.

Re: Decent bra fitting service in Basel?

Hello - since arriving in Basel I have been asking myself the same questions about where to find a correctly fitted bra for a more generous bust.

Ideally bras should be renewed every 6 months but I usually buy a replacement set every year! I also wash them by hand which wears them out less.

Agreed that there is a decent choice in the UK. Bravissimo and the lingerie section of John Lewis usually provided me with solutions from brands like "Fantasie" or "Chantelle".

In neighbouring France there is a boutique where I recently bought a "Prima Donna" model which is nice. The choice is not huge but there is pretty stuff including "Lise Charmele" which goes up to the larger cup sizes. You will get proper service in a place like that too.

The shop is "Aux Douces Folies" on 2 avenue du General de Gaulle in Saint Louis - right near the 80 bus stop from Schifflaende.

Good shopping!

Unfortunately 99% of online bra size calculators are wrong. This is a good explanation why they are wrong: http://www.thinandcurvy.com/2010/11/...nt-guides.html
Also many fitters are wrong. Experiment here: http://www.investinyourchest.co.uk/h...ting-challenge
So in most cases, you're better off fitting yourself. DIY guide:

Re: Decent bra fitting service in Basel?

Weird thing is that I always have to remind my wife that she is 75, and not 80 or 85 (maybe sometimes 80, depends on the bra), and D and not C!

How can women not know their bra size (or how to measure correctly)?

Also, finding cup sizes larger than a C is nearly impossible in Italy and France (often they have to be ordered).

Is it just me or does anybody else feel intimidated when a man knows his way around bra-sizes?

Re: Decent bra fitting service in Basel?

I found it was easier to just have my breasts surgically removed rather than trying to find a decent-fitting bra here.

Easy - they went to M&S (or similar) for their first fitting, as most women in UK seem to have done. And the fitter, supposedly an expert, stuffed them in a badly fitting bra and proclaimed that this is how it's supposed to look like. You wouldn't know any better.
