Re: Awkward Ob/Gyn Visit- difference between US and Swiss methods?

An acquaintance (a doctor from a family of gynaecologists) told me that there are two types of gynaecologists those who love women and those who hate them. All I care about is how many of these examinations is how skilled they are and their reputation. I went to one in the UK who somehow go the duckbill instrument caught inside, made me bleed. I never went back. I have had some really bad gynaes in the UK, students/newly qualified were the worst. My Gynae in Switzerland was the best I ever had.

Re: Awkward Ob/Gyn Visit- difference between US and Swiss methods?

From the male perspective: I've had female and male doctors handle and examine my plumbing. Their bedside manners have generally been warm (and their hands, and the examination rooms) and respectful of dignity, with a matter-of-fact attitude to what they're handling. It's that the makes the situation tolerable. The attending nurses seem to be chosen to be middle aged.

Having had a catheter fitted (after major surgery) by some young slip of a lass, I think I've overcome any residual embarrassment. I'm sure she found the experience more awkward than I did - all I cared about was relieving the pressure in my bladder. It could have been broadcast on Telebasel for all I cared at the time.

I did have one doctor comment, during an examination, that "testicles" is an odd word. I told him he was talking bollix, and we both collapsed into giggles. The awareness of the oddness of the situation is always lurking.

Okay, maybe I have been in Europe too long, maybe I am too old or had too many members of the medical profession look at my VAGINA, but you went to a Gynecologist not an ORL. Geez.

G-forbid you ever have medical problems down there aka the VAGINAL region and have to be examined constantly. If you do Xanax might help.

All I care is that the Dr is a excellent technician and don't give a rats a55 to where I undress, how I undress nor how I am splayed in front of him/her.

Rant over and get those annual check-ups they can save your life.

Ps, I hope you had the courtesy to wax before your visit.
Thanks for crapping on a really good humorous post!

Hats off to the OP, its been a long time since I laughed at 9am!

Could you imagine the dilemma I am faced with, with an Indian background, oh the shame!! - the dreaded long walk back to my clothes, hating every second, its just a few steps, but the longest walk for me.

Wax- wax what? - shaven legs, may be appreciated, though the OB should be concentrating on the bit inbetween.
a full bikini wax? a trim would be sufficient, wouldnt it? I dont want the OB to think I'm a closet porn star .

All silliness aside, my midwife wife always felt slightly uncomfortable being examined by the doctor she would see on almost a daily basis in a working capacity.
A Gynae girlfriend of mine said prostitutes were the most shy about showing their bits. It's all in the head.

Ask a Gynae for the 'Gynae Handshake'; a normal handshake, Gynae style. It's totally freaky in a "waaaaaaaah" way. Never fails to amuse.

Share away, but sometimes it is silly.
Laughing at something absurd is one way of handling reality; others recoil

i had it too, if its the one that journeys around your insides- even got to see all the cool stuff inside. and my gyno in the u.s had the chair too, i actually prefer it.
I was having one and my very funny doctor called my OH in and gave him an anatomy lesson! I love the treatment I get here, it's so relaxed and yet serious in all the right ways. And normally I'm so shy I won't even wear a bathing suit in public! Anyway, if one's doctor doesn't inspire complete trust and honesty, it's better to find a new one.

So, if I've understood correctly, the appropriate clothing for a gynae visit is:

Phew, thank goodness I didn't schedule a winter appointment. Brrr!

Hey, J.L-P, given this post and the undeserved groan on the OP, perhaps you might want to go and get those sympathy levels checked next time you see the doc, eh?

Not caring so much that u have to get it waxed sounds kinda inconsistent.

Welcome to the forum

And you thought these guys might be offended by your thread

Some people seem to forget that at some stage in the future we may meet them, and you know what will be going though their new friends' head?

"......ohh.. you're the one with the personal add!!"

(how to kill a funny thread...
all i am saying guys, is think about what you want these guys to know about you, if you were to meet them...)

Hey, im not offended actually. But I am now scared coz a visit to the ob/gyne is in my near future. Maybe very soon depending on the circumstances. Heck, it could be next week! im also just a modest girl. Doesnt mean im not an "adult", for those who possiby interchange that term with "naturist". lol

No worries , I shared this anecdote with both family and friends, as it's a facet of life that most can relate to. The ability to laugh at ourselves is part of what makes people both genuine and endearing, in my humble opinion .

If we ever meet, feel free to imagine me doing the "crouching knickers dance" while I shake your hand. Just don't dare ask me to reenact it!

Honestly I wouldn't care. I think that there's way too many older women suffer from incontinence or other 'plumbing' problems because talking about your lady bits is still considered a bit taboo. If any other bit of your body needed attention you'd talk about it and ask questions. Thank goodness the French are so matter of fact and professional about re-education perineal.

Ha ha, I hadn't thought of that of course!

The scale is there to monitor the improvement in the muscle tone from the start to end of the therapy. Hopefully, your mark goes up.

Keep wondering how on earth do they get the leggings (or pencil jeans) on over the tops and down the back of the heel. Do you put your shoes on first or the jeans first ?

Funny thread Zen reading y'all I tend to think there seems to be a more matter of fact approach to anatomy in Continental Europe. If you've had a baby here, you get pretty used to all the examinations etc.
Curiosity.. how many ultrasounds check-ups do you get during pregnancy in the US ?

Gosh, you are a character Nil! ...and you have given me many good laughs here with your openess and straightforward comments ...hahaaaaa...

But you know ..... until this thread I really never gave a thought to that procedure. That department was reserved for ... well .....other things than me doing a Houdini with a Dental mirror! I prefered to live with my illusions ..hahaaaa ....
