Introduction & Single Parents activities with/without kids

I moved to Switzerland several years ago, My son was born soon after arriving and unfortunately later as my relationship failed I became a single parent. I work and sometimes find weekends empty as friends are busy with their own families. I would like to meet other single parents to share experiences with.

Was wondering if there are any parents out there who would be interested in joining other single parents for activities with or without kids. As with many, sometimes I am without child for the day/evening so would be interested in activities of both a child friendly and adult nature.

I am based in Basel but this does not become a Basel only group. I look forward to hearing from any one who would like to spend some summer days having fun

Re: Single-parents in Zürich?

I guess I'm interested if there is a stigma to being a single mum in Zurich?

There is one in the UK, and I think when I was there looking at apartments, I got that double take half look thing, but that may be paranoid.

What about officially? I ask because when I got a leaflet about withholding tax I noticed that Band B was for couples with only one income and 'so-called half families (single, divorced, separated, widowed living with child/ren)' Which I hope was a translation thing as I would hate to be officially a 'so-called half family'

Re: Single-parents in Zürich?

Single mom here with a 3-year old, too.
Abi_bouw, there's no official stigma to being a single parent household. Actually, you'll find a variety of sources for assistance on all sorts of levels.
Personally, I found the single mom thing actually helped me when it came to finding an apartment.
Happy to help figure out the ropes here

I have 2 boys (1year 9mo and 8months old). I got separated back on oct2010 but tried to work things out, didnt work, back to be alone with my babys.
Like said before, being a single mother is not taken badly here, and I can confirm there are a lot of resource to help you and the kids.

Re: Single-parents in Zürich?

I'm a working mum (from 18 July onwards) but would love to catch up once on a weekend. What you think, ladies? (of course that's for non-single-partens too )

Thought I'd revive this thread - would be cool to meet some other single parents and hang out with the kids.

Re: Single-parents in Zürich?

Yes indeed. I would suggest meeting at Englsh story time, but it's
a) not great for older kids and
b) only on the first saturday of the month, so in four weeks.

Re: Single-parents in Zürich?

English story hour is a great suggestion to meet though agreed, not great with older kids.
Maybe a Saturday or Sunday session at the lake somewhere?

Re: Introduction & Single Parents activities with/without kids

I know the post is one year old but not sure any events ever happened. I'm a single mum of a 5 year old in Basel, would be great from time to time to meet other parents and kids. Would anybody be interested if I arrange an event?

Re: Introduction & Single Parents activities with/without kids

Hi everyone-

My kids are 5, 8 & 10, and i am quite happy "doing" a lot with them.
We go camping, swimming, into the mountains, but am always happy for grown-up company on the weekends, when many of my mum-friends are doing their family stuff.

If you are also in the Zurich-Baden area, know exactly what you want to do, but need a bit of motivation, have kids of a similar age, or are just happy for another grown-up to help herd the troops every so often, send me a PM.

Same goes for me. I have loads to do during the week but also find the weekends harder as others have their family time.

I'm in the Lucerne area with three kids aged 10, 9 & 7

Re: Single-parents in Zürich?

Hi..i know this is an old thread but would be interested to get to know some working single moms. I am planning to have a kid and im single and recently moved to Zurich. I work 100% and live alone. My family is in Asia.

I am keen in having a child. I have been told its almost impossible to have a child without dual support.

For a start someone told me it cost about CHF4000 a month for day care services in Zurich?

And that its almost impossible to get a place in most day care centres. Is this true?

Can anyone provide me some realistic numbers? Also where can i get useful info on single working moms? Thank you!
