| | How many children make a large family in CH?
Does anyone knows how many children makes a "large family" in Switzerland, assuming that such concept exists here?
Thanks,
Vicky

We have three kids and are considered to be a large family. I do know Swiss families with more than three kids.

More than 2 children, IMO.
Once you have three, things start to get a little more complex re finding flats that can accommodate families of 5 or more.

I was surprised how many 3 kid families I have seen around Zurich, I had the feeling it was quite common to have 3

I have 4 and we do often get some very strange looks from people, particularly in the Supermarket or at McDonalds (rare expensive treat).
In our complex most families have 2 kids but there are half a dozen that have 3 and one Swiss family even have 5 children!
When we were preparing for our move here we asked that the temporary accommodation had 3 bedrooms. The response we got was that they would ensure that the accommodation would be suitable for our very large family. At that stage we only had 3 kids! |

I live in the countryside and there are pleanty of families with 3 kids.

For me it's not the number of children, but rather the size of individual children that influences the concept of "Large Family": | This user would like to thank TidakApa for this useful post: | |

That said, my grandfather was the oldest of 9. His wife, the youngest of 13. Imagine the generation confusion as nieces and nephews changed the nappies of their uncles and aunts...
(you guessed it, good RC stock)

into the World, since 1983, and now number 128 in the "Family Tree".

not wanting to be one to raise the quotient.
I still agree with the first answer - 3.
In our street of 20 houses, those with kids: 5 have 2, 3 have 3, 1 has 4.
However 2 are single parents. So the parent to kid ratio increases.

In mountain villages I have often seen families with 3-4 children. I think this is the max size for a swiss family!

That's just my mothers side. We haven't really looked at my dad's side for fear of ending up with uncle-cousins or cousin-grandmas. | Quote: | | | | | In mountain villages I have often seen families with 3-4 children.
