Strike 1 for the anti-homeopathicists

Went to the Pharmacy today to get a spray for leaking-like-tap-due-to-hayfever nose. I was offered a "natural" remedy or chemical. I chose the natural without checking the label and was about to leave the shop when I realised it was a "homeopathic" remedy. Promptly went back in and exchanged for a proper chemical alternative.
Why do proper pharmacies peddle in such rubbish?

Because there's a huge market for it. If you had a pharmacy, you'd sell these products too.

Wherever there's a market for it...

Boots in the UK was going to branch in it because it's a multi million pound industry.

Possibly, the chemical spray was 0.75.- cheaper.

Re: Strike 1 for the anti-homeopathicists

I got sold some 'anthroposophic' cough medicine once.

I suppose the advertisements for snake oil over the counter should have been a warning...

Cost more than simply filling a bottle with water and giving it a shake too.

One man's rubbish is another man's treasure ... or, in this case, another man's leaking-like-tap-due-to-hayfever-remedy.

Re: Strike 1 for the anti-homeopathicists

The fact they don't know what they are selling irks me the most. I went for an herbal remedy (sage stuff, works usually really well for me throat) and the guy was pushing homeopathy. I asked him if he even knew what he was selling, he was persistently saying natural medicine (herbal stuff) equals homeopathy. The most efficient medicine ever, didn't you know...

I think they are so used to pushing this useless gimmick on so many people (I think locals go for it, most of my female colleagues do) and their pushy behavior is funny. Thank god one can buy Ibuprofen now, without prescription and long lecture. They always wanted to give me Bach's drops instead.

Re: Strike 1 for the anti-homeopathicists

I burnt my hand and went to the only drugstore next to my house (this was back in the NL) and they only had a "natural homeopathic" cream, I bought it and please don't kill me...it worked. I have no scars in my hand and it was a 2nd degree burn. Having said this, this is different as I guess the "quality" of my skin had much to do with how I healed...I would not get anything homeopathic for something serious or for a runny nose

Re: Strike 1 for the anti-homeopathicists

Here again is my seasonal push for "chlorpheniramine maleate" ... the only antihistamine I've taken in years that works without making me even more odd and witchy than I already am. (It does have some interesting side effects, hence all the new drugs with different side effects and is not recommended - consult with doc - if you have problems with thyroid, diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure and difficulty with urination due to enlarged prostate gland.)

Helps get sinuses in check, yep.
Helps stop itchy eyes, nose and throat, yep.
Helps stop the insides of my ears from itching, yep. (Gotta figure, if nose and throat are itching, so would the ears, right? At least it does for me anyhow.)

However, this year something "new" (maybe resurgence of something old) is happening... either I have gotten some bronchitis (caught out in the rain last week) or I'm having some allergy-induced asthma. This is the first in years I've had lung / bronchial problems.

Bloody Herbalists. They didn't do a good enough job of burning them all at the stake all those years ago. That botanical knowledge was going nowhere! Crazy herbalist or pharmaceutical company? I know who I'd rather trust.

Plants are for pussies. Viva pharmaceuticals!

Hmmmm,
When checking the label, you should also check the list of "Active Ingredients".

Registered Homeopathic products should read as follows:
-Placebo 50%
-Gypsy tears 10%
-Bullshit 15%
-Moondust 15%

(N.B. I can do maths..... simple Hippy folk can't)

I have no problem with herbal remedies, at least they contain some form of active ingredient in a measurable quantity.

Yeah, the same ones that believe that eating body parts of really endangered species such as Tigers has therapeutic properties.
