You'll find prenatal classes at Universitätsspital Zürich http://www.geburtshilfe.usz.ch/PATIE..._Englisch.aspx

or at the Hebammenpraxis Zürich http://www.hebammenpraxis-zuerich.ch/antenatal-class/

Re: english prenatal classes

I haven't been yet, but my husband and I are signed up for the May 14 & 15th course at Uni Spital. My friend attended this one and said it was fabulous. Not sure if it's booked, but if you end up signing up for the May one - let me know!

I haven't taken any of these because I am a native Swiss German . But being a mom of two kids I'd say: Trust your feelings! If you have a good feeling taking the course at Unispital, then go for it...if you feel more comfortable being at a midwife's place, then take that one.

Wishing you all the best.

Re: english prenatal classes

Hirslanden has the birth preparation weekend course in English. http://www.hirslanden-baby.ch/en/hig...fm?details=149 If you call or email they'll tell you the correct course date for your due date.

Is there another type of prenatal course are you looking for? Exercises, yoga, etc? The New Stork Times does breastfeeding and prenatal courses and Birthlight does yoga. All in English!

Re: english prenatal classes

Klinik im Park is another private clinic in Zürich associated with the Hirslanden group. I took an intensive weekend birth preparation in English there this past weekend.

The course was Saturday and Sunday, four hours each day. The midwife leading the course was very knowledgeable. We received two small pamphlets for reading material. Be sure to ask questions you have regarding anything in the pamphlets. I had assumed that we would be going over things I had read, but that was not the case. Had I known we were not going to discuss birthing positions in detail, for example, I would have asked more questions, rather than now trying to make out small line drawings of different positions.

I liked the weekend format, and would not have wanted to go to one class for two hours over multiple weeks, but that's a personal preference.

I am not giving birth at Klinik im Park, so personally was disappointed that so much of the second day was spent on a tour of the clinic and on the bells and whistles that women giving birth there receive. More information on the Klinik im Park options is available here:
http://www.hirslanden-baby.ch/de/hig...fm?details=151

Klinik Bethanien also offers birth preparation courses in English:
http://www.klinikbethanien.ch/index....ses-in-english

Finally, Triemlispital offers birth preparation classes, but they are only in German:

Re: english prenatal classes

We did the Hirslanden weekend course for our first child and personally I would not recommend it. The midwife was very knowlegable but the course did not really go into any depth at all on anything and after leaving I felt I didn't know much more than I had previously already read anyway.

And honestly, when the time comes, you forget anything that they've told you anyway! you just listen to what the midwives with you are advising

Re: english prenatal classes

Hiya,

I have been checking some courses, this is my first baby and I am due in September.
I have found two more courses in Zurich. I have not decided yet, but heard very good things about these two.
http://www.thestork.ch/html/birthprep.html
http://www.klinikbethanien.ch/multim...ft_classes.pdf
There are some good prenatal classes if you are also looking for Yoga and aqua yoga.
Here is the link: http://www.birthlight.ch/inhalt_birt...eminar_en.html
Hope it helps.
;-)

Re: english prenatal classes

Maybe it would be the easiest if you'd ask a midwife to give you a 2hr-private course on infant care. You'll find a midwife (Hebamme) here .
And then, your insurance will pay for homevisits of a midwife after birth - that will be a good opportunity to ask all your questions.
