Actually the OP was mainly talking about sugar in general with only one mention of HFCS in a supplementary sense. Please read the title - "Sugar" and not "HFCS". Your rebuttal mainly concerned itself with comparing Sucrose (50% fructose) and other "calorific sweeteners" with HFCS (55% Fructose) rather than the ill-effects of fructose itself. The ill effects of fructose in general is not really discussed beyond mentioning that there are insufficient studies.

Perhaps I can stress one of your quotes:

Partial quotes are often more obfuscatory than anything else - you can't really quote those lines without quoting the "however" that follows them (as I did earlier - present the full picture, not half of it, etc etc).

Otherwise there's nothing to stop me quoting your last post as

Not sure about the young ones with the "muffin tops" I see at Starbucks sucking back the grande Frappuccino with the slice of cheese cake (at over 1'200 calories !!).

Not so much in Europe. More so in the U.S.

I learned as a teenager - yes, a VERY long time ago - that fructose = glucose = sugar, for all intents and purposes. It's that -ose that's the giveaway.

Like go-ose. Very fattening.

So sugar isn't good for you, ok got that
But aspartame is much much worse and can really get you sick.

So between the two, I prefer sugar, just in very small doses

It is never that simple. As Paddy said (above), everything is toxic if you overdose.

Vitamins are powerful molecules that can do a lot of damage if you take too much of any one. Vitamin A can cause neural tube defects in pregnancy.

Drinking too much water will kill you.

It is all about quantities; sugar is good for you in the right doses and at the right times.

So, how much is in:

Beer
Red wine
Espresso liscio (i.e. no sugar)
Vodka
Grappa
Whisky
Plain Yogurt
Olive Oil
Motor Oil

The other stuff is a non-issue for me.
