It will be a good start to meet new people. There are many long term residents there, from all walks of life.

St. Ursala's weekly moms and tots group is a great place to meet moms and soon to be moms. I know more than one woman who started going while they were pregnant with their first child. There is a nominal fee of 5 fr. to cover costs.

Another great resource: Expat-Moms-In-Switzerland Yahoo group.

There are many expat moms in Bern and everyone has been very welcoming. We moved to Bern two years ago when I was pregnant with our second child.
