schools Rolle area

We just found out that my husband is being transferred to the Rolle area in October. We have 3 children, 2 that are school age. My youngest has been accepted into La Cote but we can't seem to get my older son in anywhere! He is currently 6th on the waiting list at La Cote. I'm starting to get nervous that he will not have a school to go to when we arrive. Anyone ever run into this situation before?

Are they still on to move their campus to Aubonne in September?

I'm not sure. We have been talking with admissions and they have not said anything about it.

Contact the local school while you are keeping the waiting list at La Cote (he might actually like the local school, too, loads of kids do).

That's something else we are considering. I'm just a little nervous about the language. he doesn't know any French!

Anyone have any idea about how long it would take to get him into La Cote, being 5th or 6th on the waiting list?

Re: schools Rolle area

how old is he?

I've seen last year a little girl of 8 arrive in class without any french from Poland, and being the best of her class by now. Full immersion is the best and fastest way to learn... but it doesn't work if the kid doesn't want to.

Not sure anyone here can answer this question, you really would have to query the school.

That being said, you did not mention the age or class level that your child would enter, this could be very important.

From what I know of La Cote International school, these may help you. First, it was those large multinationals in Rolle that had the wherewithal to help set up that school in the first place, so I would definitely work through your husbands employer/HR to put pressure/influence them to find a slot. Second, it seems quite strange for a school to 'split up families'. Typcially when you have one child 'in', the second is also 'in' or has priority. I would talk again to the school to say you really want them both there and note all the difficulties in having children at two schools. Third, the school has been rapidly growning, moved locations already twice from containers in Mont-sur-Rolle, to current place En Clarens, Vich. The Vich site can be quite limiting if rapidly growing. Per another poster, perhaps they are planning on moving again, and if have space it is quite easy to add another class once the physical space is addressed. I would ask them questions like, how many kids on the waiting list until you add another class for that year?, etc.

Re: schools Rolle area

You dont say the ages of your 2 children, but if its primary age, I would try the Geneva English School. They have recently expanded the number of primary school age places and you might be lucky to get both children in there. Having two kids at two different schools is a bit of a logistical challenge. Good luck.
