Hello Everyone;
We moved to Switzerland in July of 2010. My children 6 year old twins (I also have an 8 year old) took a ballet class in the USA which they loved. I promised them they could take a dance class here in Switzerland, so I signed them up, and my daughters are a bit disappointed.

They say that they want more technique and real dancing like they had in the USA. They complain that the children are laughing and playing when they are not suppose to and all they do is jump around and don't actually learn to dance. I have watched the class before, and I understand what they mean. I have also visited other dance schools and the classes for my daughters age range, is usually like thier first dance class when they were two or three.

They dance a lot at home and stretch on their own, so I really don't want to pay for a class if they are not getting any thing out of it. They keep asking me to find a better dance class where the children behave and they learn to dance. One prefers Jazz/hip hop and the other ballet. Help! Any suggestions are appreciated? We live in Kanton Zurich, close to the Aargau border. Thank you.

I know of a couple in Kanton Zug. There is a great school called Mavement in Cham/Steinhausen. They have both ballet and Hip-hop. Kids seem to really like the teacher there.

We're from the US, where my 11 and 8 year old danced (primarily ballet) for many, many years. We find the opposite in this part of CH (Vaud). The technique is amazing, the classes very serious! We find what we miss from the US is the focus on theater. In our ballet school in the US there was lots of passion and creativity, even if technique would sometimes suffer. Ah well.

I second the school of the Opera in Zurich!

Used to go there many, many, many years ago.

The classes are very disciplined and they ask the same of their students.

Very professional and if lots of talent is there they also promote you to a rather structured path and a really pro training.

The daughter of a friend of mine attends classes at Ms Cameron's in Zurich-Altstetten: The girl is 6 years old.

I have had a hard time to look for a good dance studio in Zurich as well... most of them offer only 1 hour for one class.. which cant do much in 1 hour.. warming up has taken away half of the time already.. and the programms are not as great (e.g. no limited number of students in one class caused people kicking the person next)
Zurich is a small place with very few population. They dont offer much may because there is not enough demands.

A small town in Germany seems to have more offerring than the so-called big city zurich, Konstance(ca. 1hr from zurich) they have different levels of ballet for children..

but ofcause its not so convenience to take the kids there all the time, same in the swiss-french part, they seem to have more and better stuff than in the swiss-german part(or zurich)
