How to get a "confirmation of recognition of Father" certificate

Hi everyone

I'll shortly be giving birth and my hospital in Basel has asked me to provide them with some documents as my partner and I are unmarried (and not Swiss). Specifically, we need to provide:

- Confirmation of recognition/certificate of recognition of father
- Proof of marital status

Does anyone know how I go about getting these documents?

Many thanks in advance

You could read through this thread?

registering-birth-when-parents-non-swiss-nationals-unmarried.html

And then possibly use the search function on the top right hand corner of the screen - type in birth, unmarried, baby.. anything you like really...

Using the search function doesn't really bring up any useful info regarding the procedures for unmarried couples other than the thread that is linked to.
This page might help - if you scroll down to the bottom there's some specific info
http://zurich.angloinfo.com/information/70/birth.asp

It might be also helpful to contact the Basel Children's Trust as they have an information booklet about giving birth in Basel. In any case, I would contact the Zivilstandsamt as soon as possible to arrange things.
From my experience in Germany we had to make an appointment, bring passports and birth certs and everything was conducted in German so we needed a translator too as these are legal documents that you are signing so you really do need to understand what they're saying. Although it may be different in Swtzerland of course.
