If you are a teenager (or my girlfriend).

Or it's Saturday or Sunday, and the weather sucks.

A friend of mine needed 16 hours per day... then again he was narcoleptic.
Leonardo da Vinci claimed to only sleep in 3 hours bursts which improved his productivity.

Re: Is sleeping 10+ hours normal??

I remember learning that is is pretty much only the hours one sleeps before midnight that count for regeneration of certain brain cells, etc. So, if you regularly go to bed at midnight, even though you are actually sleeping enough hours, you will still lack rest and your body will try to catch up.

I love going to bed early but getting up early (and zap spammers, cram and prep my classes). If I went to bed really late, even sleeping in late wouldn't make me feel rested. It's also what you do before you sleep. If you walk outside, it's one thing, but if you stare into pc screen, game, chat or surf for hours, days and months, your body starts acting completely differently, it effects quality of sleep and metabolism, too. Your blood pressure might be low, too. Hence the long sleep. I tend to sleep long when I stress about work I gota do when I wake up. Sleep disease of procrastination.

Cats instinctively know when their owners are going to wake. And then wake them 10 minutes earlier.

Ouchy, I'm with everyone else... you need to try to get to sleep earlier on a regular basis. Drink more water too.

Oh, and don't forget to eat your veggies!

I sleep 7 - 8 hrs a night and when I get the chance, will do a couple of hours on the sofa during the day. Don't think I'm narcoleptic, but have got low blood pressure.
Would love to be a bit more dynamic..........

Is it normal to sleep 10+ hours every sunday. I do this almost weekly, no alarm can wake me up, my body knows it's sunday so goes into hibernation.
Of course it's not normal!! You young lad should be in bed by 11pm every night! You might even find you feel more productive at work with having had a decent amount of sleep!

We all know, that if i was going to bed with someone, there wouldn't be much sleeping done.. ever.
Maybe if you weren't sleeping the weekend away you MIGHT actually find someone to sleep with!!

You really need to get out more! That way you might actually find the above bedmate!!

Since I presume you are up that late because you are a) dicking around on the internet, b) watching films, c) gaming or d) chatting with people overseas, i.e. nothing that you truly NEED to do, I recommend setting a timer next to your computer that tells you to go to bed. Like an electronic mum. You'll feel much better for it, because you do look quite tired...

Re: Is sleeping 10+ hours normal??

Sleep Deprivation is found to be a major cause for a lot of urban lifestyle related diseases. Studies have said that by sleeping one day for long hours will not make up for the lost sleep over the week. Like anything else you need a balance. Sleeping one day for 10+ hours surely may not be enough to cover for 4 hour sleep during weeknights

Re: Is sleeping 10+ hours normal??

I dream of having 10 hours sleep. I was hoping for a lie-in on Sunday but my 4 year old was up at 7am wanting a chapter of Enid Blyton's "Wishing Chair" to be read to him.

Cheers,
Nick

But the stupidest thing is - when you are young and can sleep, you can't or won't. And you are finally retired and could sleep as much as you like - you bl****y well can't anymore.

Not YOU - 'one' ! If you were older and retired, you wouldn't be able to sleep for 10 hours, whatever hour you went to bed- that is the problem!

Re: Is sleeping 10+ hours normal??

Yes, especially if you do sports and are active... I am so knackered after session of tennis, jogging add two glasses of wine and I kiss a pillow goodnite do that even my better half's poking won't help. Beer is more diarrhetic though so body won't do without few trips to john in the middle of the nite.
