Depends on your priorities - something that folds up small, that you can fit in a small car or flat, that you can take on a plane, that adapts to babies of different ages, that is robust enough for the countryside, that you can run with, that you can load up with shopping etc etc, those things are more important than brand. Decide on your priorities first then we can give you some ideas :-)

Re: your favourite brand for pram stroller and car seat

Good post rachelw!

I have the Bugaboo Chameleon.
I used it for my oldest child who is almost 3 years old now and I'm still using it for my 1 year old. It's a fantastic stroller and I cannot recommend it enough. It's very strong, light and very comfortable to maneuver around. I walk more than I use a car. Through sun, snow, wind and rain and this stroller has been everywhere and still functions perfectly.

I use the Maxi-Cosi car seat which also has little legs (sorry, it's been a really long day and I can't think of the right word) the clip into the Bugaboo base.

Re: your favourite brand for pram stroller and car seat

We had a teutonia pram which was excellent and was used every day for 5 years without complaint (2 kids). It was the 'AWD' of pushchairs at the time in Germany but have not seen any since being in CH.
We had Maxi Cosi car seats and then the buggy wheel attachment which we kept in the car - took up less space than the pram and was ok for holidays / short trips.

We have a Chicco Trio and would highly recommend it! Been using for 2 1/2 years so far and it's about to be passed onto baby number 2

we ordered it from www.kidsroom.de. they delivered here and were far cheaper that any swiss shops!

But function wise... does it work for you? Believe me I've heard enough people complain about how they can't fit their shopping in the pram or that it topples over when they hang a nappybag on the handlebars, when they bought a lightweight umbrella stroller designed to be portable. Or friends who bought the giant pram that would survive a collision with a tractor only to find it would not fit in the lift to their 4th floor apartment. You'll soon forget about looks if it doesn't fit your lifestyle. Price wise it's a disaster if you end up wanting to buy another, but you won't regret a penny if you you love your stroller and get years of use out of it.

Well said! What rachelw has said are the criteria you should be considering.

When we bought our Mountain Buggy Urban over 7 years ago we looked at whether it was sturdy enough to do the 4 children we were planning on having. We also purchased the carrycot and spent about $1000 in total which was a lot of money back then. The pushchair is still going strong and has moved internationally twice. We are nearing the end of needing it and I'm feeling rather sad about having to part with it.

Think about what you can afford, where you need to use it and how long you think you may need it for (1 kid v's 4 kids). There are a lot of great ones out there but think about your practicalities/needs and not trying to keep up with the new mum next door.

Re: your favourite brand for pram stroller and car seat

Also echo what Rachel says

Also decide if you want a 3 wheeler or 4 wheeler, if you want parent facing option, if you want multi function, so bassinet, buggy seat and car seat attachments, how easy it is to fold away, how easy it is to maneuver.

We have the Baby Jogger City Select - main reason we chose this was 4 wheels, parent facing option and HUGE basket at the bottom which can fit LOTS of shopping in added bonus is that if we expand the family this buggy converts to a double (but that wasn't the reason we bought it)

Downside to this buggy is it's a few inches longer due to the second seat attachement area and can be a tight squeeze in some lifts, also its quite wide and can be difficult maneuvering around isles in shops and I hate the harness in the buggy seat - apart from those 3 negatives we are happy with it

Re: your favourite brand for pram stroller and car seat

We have the Queenie Dreamy which is just perfect for city, forests and mountainous paths.

The one with little wheels are a complete no go for mountainous paths or in the forest.

I should 'fess up to having 2 strollers now, a tank size running and cycling machine that cost a lot but my husband and I considered essential because we both like to run and cycle together, and a lightweight quinny Zapp for getting around town and the frequent trips back to the UK. Sometimes one size doesn't fit all... :-)

I used a Chicco lite way from birth (with padded sleeping bag insert, strapped in) until now 18mths with my second. It weighs 6kgs, folds up small. I can get it out of the car boot/bus/train with it folded while carrying my daughter and it turns easily. It is a bit bumpy on the stones but was inexpensive and is still great. Big back wheels make pulling up my front stairs easy too.

With my first I had a TFK that was 12kgs and was like a small tank when folded. It was solid and expensive - and I managed to snap the frame on a steep walking trail.

Re: your favourite brand for pram stroller and car seat

3 wheelers are better for rough paths and getting in or out a bus or similar situations. A 3 wheeler is also slightly better to maneuver around, e.g. bus, road curb, small steps.

Re: your favourite brand for pram stroller and car seat

My wife and I tried and tested a few Prams/pushchairs. The criteria we were looking for:
1) is a complete travel system ( Pram/Pushchair and baby seat)
2) be able to manoeuvre it with one hand ( 4 wheel trumped the 3 wheel option)
3) fold it up with one hand
4) a deep carrying capacity
5) not so heavy.
6) not necessary to get a re-mortgage to buy it

We ended up with the Mothercare brand. I had a quick look and the 'Mothercare U-Move Pushchair Travel System' seems to be the closest and at a very reasonable price.

I also think they deliver to Switzerland - worth a look.
regards
CB
