| | Reimbursement of expenses for pre-term baby
hi All
I just found out that if you have a pre-term baby that has to be in the hospital for some duration of time after birth (mine for about 5 weeks), you can get reimbursement of various expenses such as parking tickets (which is VERY expensive in Unispital Zurich), fuel, etc. I think it's paid by an organisation called SVA or something. Worth to keep all your receipts . I didnt | The following 4 users would like to thank for this useful post: | |

Now rant: "I think it's paid by an organisation called SVA or something" please get to know what these organisations do, why you pay them and how the hell life in Switzerland actually works at grass root level!

There must be a specialist person in the hospital to help with this.
By SVA i assume you mean the equivalent of the "social services" here.
Again i suggest asking at the hospital. It may even be that the health insurance helps pay.
Another issue is that you live in a different canton than where your baby is being treated - but again, ask at the hospital (and then report back here to help the next person - if you choose)
Without receipts it may be difficult though.

My son will be going into hospital on Thursday for a routine op. The hospital has sent details, along with his appointment, on how to go about paying a different rate for the hospital parking so that it is considerably cheaper than normal.
Ask the hospital.

My daughter was a preemie too and she had to stay in NICU for 11 days. Right after she was discharged, the hospital (in our case was the Unispital) sent a form for reimbursement. Do it right away and you will be informed which stuffs are covered. We didn't have to pay anything. All paid by SVA though we had pre birth insurance for her.

My younger daughter (now 18, and 5'8") was 5 weeks early, and spent 4 or 5 weeks in an incubator.
Don't recall parking/gas getting paid, but we are only 7km from the hospital, and parking wasn't much.

This is I think one of the docs I got - http://www.flickr.com/photos/shreky/...in/photostream
The paedetrician we went to see at the Kinderspital Zurich last week was kind enough to call the SVA office to clarify a few bits and pieces. My concern was if I had to pay anything .. and anything usually means BIG money in Switzerland. All seems to have been paid by the SVA, and partially my kanton (for the birth cost). Plus, she mentioned I could claim the parking expenses, fuel etc.
The baby is good now, from 1.5 kg at birth, she's now 6.5 kg @ almost 6 month old.
At zero cost, it's a good deal.
At least I know where my tax goes.
