Bake sales

Do the schools here in CH hold bake sales at all?

It's a good question. My wife makes delicious cheesecakes and scones. She has had first orders from her local tennis club and made couple of them for other friends. It's not a bake sale as such but we rather try to advertise amongst locals and expats by word of mouth.

Re: Bake sales

i don't know about your area, but here in lausanne on saturday market days there are tons of kids who have bake sale stalls selling goodies to fund their trips with school. cupcakes for 2 chfs? can't get a better bargin!

if your wife makes a good cheesecake she should get in touch with a local cafe and offer to make one or two for them and see how they go. i have a friend with a bar and when i have the time i make a yummy cheesecake or cupcakes and it is good for pocket change once in a while...

Hey, I've just googled Neuenhof...and surprise, surprise it isn't too far from here. How about you bring me one of them lovely cheesecakes and let's say we'll meet halfway (in Aarau)...and it's drinks on me.

Sorry, the fridge is empty and the last piece devoured by the biggest glutton in the house...

Kitchen is still open though and can host you with ice-cream being served 24-hours on the clock

Re: Bake sales

Listen folks (sorry Meisie to bring about cravings ) here is a brief selection of the cakes offered by Mrs jacek who takes pleasure of painstaking ritual at the baking-oven to please each and every abdomen. The list will be further augmented with new delicacies to challenge even the most demanding tongues. Just help yourself:

Strawberry cheesecake

Sponge cake (baked)

Scones

Peach cake

Lemon cheesecake

Coco cake

Piece of cheese cake

Plain cheesecake

Last edited by jacek; 12.06.2011 at 00:02. Reason: Added more pictures of cakes ;)

My better half is just poking me for disclosing her baking secrets

So when are we on with our "bake sale"?

P.S. I'm afraid that she is better expert in the field than I and she can tell lamingtons from muffins - I just sample them and nod

Getting back to Meisie's Original question,

NO - dont you know at school you are only allowed to eat apples!

most probably why the Swiss women have the lowest BMI in Europe

I envisage huge room for improvement there (BMI) and window of opportunity to introduce bake sales ...

What I have seen in our town though is that sometimes there are stands with cakes and various kind of wurst and cheese in front of Migros in our tiny CBD.

Sounds like that could be a fun idea for a little ef event maybe? We could even perhaps donate the proceeds to some local charity or something..

I've just made some "traditional" rice crispy treats (melted butter, melted marshmallows and rice crispies all mixed together, pressed into a pan, left to cool and cut into squares. Sometimes people cover them with chocolate or add chocolate chips, there are many other variations) which remind me of the bake sales back when I was a kid.

We go to a lot of running races/events and there are always home made cake stalls there, also at second hand sales run by churches/schools/clubs etc.

I've toyed with the idea of setting up a stand at the Flohmarkt or so with baked goodies for sale but it seems to me that in order to sell cooked goods you have to certify your kitchen or so? (Not that it's necessarily a problem but certainly more of a hassle than I'd care to deal with for casual pocket change.)

Yes, you do, I'm in the process of obtaining a license. Its not incredibly difficult, but it involves of cleaning. Just as you said, alot of hassel. One has to level off your profit as to the time that is consumed cleaning, and cleaning, did I mention cleaning
I would be thrilled if I could rent a few hours in a restaurant's kitchen, but then again your profits depreciate.
