Scalamobil or similar device

Hello EF'es ,

I am looking for some advice regarding a personal matter.

My mother is very sick (half-paralyzed) and she is at this moment confined to her apartment, because there is no solution for her to be able to go out. The simple wheelchair is not suitable as she needs a lot of people carrying her down the stairs (she lives in a building, 3rd floor with no elevator).

I saw that there is a device called Scalamobil that can be attached to a normal wheelchair for going up and down stairs. The problem is the price is really high(over 3000 pounds) so I want to know if there is a similar device but within a lower prince range or if you have ideas how to deal with this issue.

Thanks in advance for taking the time to read this post ,

Not sure how is is there but in our neck of the woods the gemeinde will assist in relocation to a ground floor apartment or a building with a suitable lift. Could be worth asking the question?

Hi, Andreea,

My family had a similar problem with one of my grandmothers. It happened a while ago, so no technical solutions available to us, or at least none we were aware of at that time, and what my relatives did was sell her appartment and host her for a while till they bought a more convenient one, at the ground floor. A considerable amount of money was lost in the process, not to mention time, but in the end was well worth it, as she really wanted to be on her own and not a "burden" for her children - a word she was the only one to use..
It does not answer to your main question, though.
I wish you to find a way to make her life simpler, being confined to an appt. must be tough.

Thanks swissbob for the message. I forgot a major detail in this story- my mother doesn't live in Switzerland. However the idea could be applied to other countries, nonetheless. But my mother suffers from depression and a change like that would be out of the question.

When I say the idea could be applied I mean we could do it ourselves because the state would not bother giving a rat's *** on their people.

Thanks again,
Andreea

Thanks greenmount for sharing your experience,

Well as I told swissbob, my mother could not change her place because she is in very poor mental health due to her medical problems. I wanted to find a solution that would work for her there. That's why I thought about a way of transporting her easily...she also has this idea with being a "burden", can't help her there too much unfortunately

Thanks again ,
Andreea
