| Husband will be working in Horgen. Thanks for all of the advice. We will go on house hunting trip in July.
I don't mind splitting the kids up because they are four yrs apart in age. ZIS looks more impressive on their website. Just didn't know if there were a difference between the schools. | |

We live in Horgen and have 2 students in the high school of ISZL.
When we first moved here, ZIS was completely full.
Horgen is ideally located in the middle between Zurich and Zug.
The "lower" school of ISZL is located in Walterswil - approx. 10 kms from Horgen, 15 mins by car). There are no busses/trains running between Horgen and Walterswil - If you want to use public transporatation, you would need to take a train to Baar and then a bus to the school.
The school also has a shuttle bus and there are some kids being picked up here in the area as I see the bus every morning.
The high school of ISZL is located in Huenenberg. You get there by taking the train at Horgen Oberdorf to Zug (direct, 13 mins), then a train from Zug to Cham and then a bus from Cham train station to the school. The busstop is right in front of ISZL school.
Train and bus times can be found on
www.sbb.ch (also in English).
I cannot comment on ZIS since I am not familiar with the school.
If you would like to preview some rentals online, you can visit
www.comparis.ch (also in English).
If you would choose for Zurich side living, you can look for Horgen and Thalwil (direct trains to Zug and Zurich from both locations) or Waedenswil, Kilchberg, Oberrrieden, ... (connect trains to Zug in Thalwil).
Kanton Zug (lower taxes): Zug, Baar, Huenenberg, Steinhausen, Cham - these locations have good public transport connections and are about 15-20 km away from Horgen by car.
Many expats live also in Unteraegeri, Oberaegeri, Neuheim; however, there are no trains, only busses running to and from these places.
Good luck and welcome to the area!
