| | Problem with school enrollment
So, I enrolled my two kids in local school (5 and 7). I got the letter today, and instead of putting my 5 year old in the 1st year CIN (initial cycle) they enrolled her in 1st year Primary CYP. The letter said no modifications are possible....and now they are on vacation for 2 weeks. I am going to worry myself mad. I don't want her in CYP1 she should be in kindergarten and isn't even obligated to go...
Do you think they will correct it??

Which class did they put the older one in? I guess they mixed up the age of the children. ASAIK the summer holiday in Vaud will last more than two weeks from now on. So there is no need to panic. Just sort it out after the headmaster is back from holiday or go to the commune and ask if they can help you.

It does sound like an administrative fault. She cannot go to CYP at 5, without prior CIN, at least the CIN 2. Call the commune, or, the directeur for all the ecoles primaires in the commune. The contact will be on the commune web site. Also, it wont hurt contacting the communce, center for edu. The holidays for school admin are two weeks, but the secretary might be checking, maybe. Commune will tell you.

That makes me feel better. They put him in CYP2, so they got him right. They were going to put her in CIN2, but I requested CIN1, as she didn't want to go at all. They said that was fine since she *just* turned 5, I was hoping they just got confused...guess I will just wait and see. I emailed and called, LOL

Do you think they will correct it?? | | | | | Just be aware that of next year, 2012, Vaud will implement the HarmoS rules and this means mandatory Cycle initial, and strict enrollment in classes based on birthday. Maybe the school is gearing up for that and don't want to have too much problems with a child out of cycle, but primary level does sound like they just made an error.
Anyhow, you should be safe for this year. You didn't mention the birthday, but if 5 by June 30 (with a two month window either side), normally would be cycle initial 2. Generally secretaries work in the a.m. during the summer, and more often in towards August, so you should be able to just call them and have it fixed.

Another possible explanation could be that due to so many Anglophone kids, they might have figured out that the little ones, exposed to some kindy abroad already, might have learned some prereading/writing/simple math stuff and formally do belong to CYP1 (if she just turned 5, she should go to CIN2, for sure). It is the second 2 weeks in July that admin is usually on hold, maybe till the first week of Aug the longest, just email them and see. I would definitely contact your responsable regional as they call them in Fr for ecole primaire in your area and Commune, see how they explain the "enclassement". I wouldn't stress, usually the complaints are the other way around, people want to be higher up, not slowed down. But I get your worries. (Is your girl unusually tall? Strong?)
