I've been wondering, do men need a different programme then women to lose weight?
Oh yeah.. very different. And gents are downright lucky, because they burn fat much faster than women do, so the results are immediate (well within 2 weeks)

I think it's only a bit faster - perhaps 500 calories a day.

But women can do the same and get a faster resting metabolism by putting on a bit of muscle (and taking more exercise).

Additionally, men tend to have bigger appetites than women (and drink more beer!) so there's not much of an advantage, really and you can certainly do something about decreasing the gap!

Hi,

I have decided after being called a fat **** too many times recently that I am determined to lose some extra kilos and wondered if there were any other MEN on EF wanting to join me in discussing methods, actual weigh-ins and general tips to lose a few kilo's over a couple of months. I was thinking of making it a proper macho environment on this thread and maybe once in a while meet up on a 'reward' session & drink ourselves stupid.

It will be a soiciable and friendly environment (on here) for MEN only, maybe you have an event to look forward to in the next 3,6,12 months. I have many events & really need to lose about 15kg.

Summer is a good time to start as there are many types of salads available so who (MEN only of course!) is in?
Im in. Fed up buying larger and larger T shirts, want to wear the ones I cant !

Transition mate, you aren't the first to dream of this, and wont be the last.

Men supporting men- I'm very impressed.
Fundamentally, the differences in the sexes means that it will take a very special relationship to be able to cross this divide in the sexes, in understanding the world.

Let me remind you of a very old post of one of my old heros of the forum- whom i still hope to meet one day.

Here you go.
Part of this old thread.

For me, it shows that if you really want something, you go out and do it(!)
There are always costs. In this case it is time and hard, hard work.
Sorry missed this Rangatiranui at the time, yes, I remember that post (& thread) - a classic!

Re: Want to lose some kilo's need daily macho support (MEN ONLY)?

I have decided to loose weight, stop smoking and cut down on drinking too. Joined a gym 2 days ago. mainly for the fitness classes. I am lazy and know i will give up if i decide to work out on my own. Plan is to go to gym for some class everyday. I started with the yoga and pilates classes now as it looks easier than the rigourous body pump and body toning classes. whole body is aching now, but i feel good. stopped eating junk food and sweets. started eating healthy foods. will drink more water too. will let you know the results next month.

Weird eh? So can I.

I was following a bit of everyone's advice here and lost about 3 kilo since. I don't smoke or drink so in that respect lucky. Today I was eating raw broccoli (washed obviously) dipped in natural yoghurt.. and a soup with other veg.

My next session will be in Amsterdam in August but before that I am going to keep this up. The water advice is really the key... LIB I'm near Luzern.

My start is playing squash with another Effer who is a great guy and it helps a lot, drinking more water and eating only very light at nightime

Try this P90X, intensive but very effective.

http://www.beachbody.com/product/fit...x.do?t=p90x2b2
You could try to order from UK (saw some ads on an english channel).

Hope this helps.

I bought P90X and promptly sold it at below cost. Once I realized it was going to involve bouncing up and down in my living room, I couldn't bear the thought of falling through the floor.

Gym Membership + Weight Watchers + Running worked well for me before. Getting that exercise:diet ratio down was key.

I'm not saying P90X is garbage, and I know people who have had great success on it... I just didn't find it practical for my situation. I think if you live above someone else or have weak floors, that it's probably not going to be ideal.

Thats interesting..
i would have thought that you sweat and breath out in the night, hence lose water.
Do you drink in the night?
Whatever the case, dont worry about fluctuations that occur over the period of one night (Dont sweat the small stuff )

And Trans, make changes that you are willing to continue for the rest of your life.. What i mean is, if you are choosing to eat broccoli, dipped in yoghurt, only do this if you can "live with" this.
The UK TV program "Supersize verses Superskinny" (YouTube it) i find very interesting.
It really points out that thin people eat less, and large people eat more (for their output - I wont comment on Lanky Lance Armstrongs 6000 calorie a day diet).
Neither of the diets portrayed by most individuals in SSvsSS is ideal or healthy.

Small steps succeed.
Large changes may send you into a backward spiral.

Should we meet up once a week (regardless of weather) and do one of them Vitaparcours (www.vitaparcours.ch/d/html/) since they're scattered all over Switzerland, we could possibly travel to each other's destination or meetup at a central location. What do you guys think?

It really points out that thin people eat less, and large people eat more (for their output - I wont comment on Lanky Lance Armstrongs 6000 calorie a day diet).

There have been trials that have shown this to be true.

There was one in Cambridge, U.K. where thin and fat people were asked to write down 'exactly' what they had eaten the week before.
The next week they were told to do the same but to fill in the food diary every time they ate any thing.

It turns out that thin people actually ate less than they said they did (and less than other people perceived them to eat) and the fat people actually ate far more then they thought, and said they did.

I've met people at both end of the spectrum and this does seem to hold true.

An over-weight work colleague of my wife ate next to nothing in the staff restaurant and was always complaining that she couldn't lose weight and that the thin ones were so lucky.

One day she forgot to lock her locker and everything from her secret stash spilled out - packets of crisps, chocolate bars, sweets etc.

So, I came to the conclusion long ago that we all have bodies that obey the energy conservation laws even if we think we're special cases.

However, I do accept that many, many people have psychological problems that cause them to over-eat and there are others who have difficulties in taking exercise or medical problems that cause them to retain weight.

That's me in a nutshell: until about three weeks ago, I was addicted (quite literally) to chocolate, sugary drinks (especially those Emmi coffees) and crisps. Then I read UTH's diabetes thread, which was like a slap round the chops with a wet haddock.

I abruptly stopped snacking on these things. Nothing else has changed, really: I still eat good meals and still have a fondness for the fruit of the barley tree, but I've already started losing weight.

Looking back, I realised that each day I was consuming several hundred grammes of completely unnecessary sugar. Every iced coffee, every milky drink, every piece of chocolate... they all counted towards a big belly, with no appreciable benefit. It was tough for the first week or so - the chocolate cravings, in particular, nearly drove me mad - but it has paid off. On Monday I had a small piece of chocolate for the first time since I began the programme, savoured every bite (well, both of them), and was quite satisfied when it was gone, with no desire to have another one.

All I need to do now is move a bit more and drink a bit less, and the weight should start falling off.

I hope!

Definitely, as long as it don't turn into the "men-love-fest-in-the-woods" I'm up for it. Would next weekend be good for you?
