British School of Geneva

Hi All,

I couldn't find any previous threads regarding this particular school. Does anyone have any experience or knowledge about the British School of Geneva? We have a four year old daughter and are looking into schooling options. I have a work posting in Geneva and am really struggling between the stave vs. private option. I suppose the main reason for looking into a British school is that we don't know how long we will be in Switzerland. Any help or advice would be greatly received.

Many thanks,

Mark

Re: British School of Geneva

Private schooling is expensive and not better than the canton schools. A friend of mine paid for private education in Geneva, and when they moved to Lausanne their children had to repeat a year as they were not up to canton Vaud standard.

Compulsory education starts at age of seven here, however as she is only four years old she would be attending a local Kindergarten which you would probably have to pay for. She should mix with children living near her, so she can have local friends. Many private school children have friends living miles away, and cannot easily develop friendships.

As for British School of Geneva, it is a fairly new name they have adopted.

It was part of a language school and previously known as Geneva Secondary School under ASC International House. Search those names and some results should come up.

From what I know, a colleague has a child there, it is very small school but growing. I don't think it has all the infrastruture/facilities as the big international school (3 campus') have, but the cost is less as well. It follows British curriculum and the only school offering A levels in the area, I believe.

Apologies for the double post, but here in Geneva it is compulsory from age 6 and is in the process of being compulsory from age 4, as Geneve agreed to HarmoS. According to this webpage, in french, they indicate mandatory schooling at age 4 in 2011 (although I understood full HarmoS implementation was a bit later, like 2012 in Vaud).
