The planes on CAI-JNB may not have IFE which may be an issue if you rely on TV to calm your kid on the plane. Also, you have to change in Cairo. Then again, that's why they're cheaper than Swiss, and you can earn miles on Swiss' frequent flyer program flying Egyptair.

Not for about 10 years. But I do know they banned smoking on the flights back in 2002. I just remember the horrible smoke smell and the yellow interiors of the planes. If youre flying from Europe though am guessing they will have a nice new (clean) airplane for you. Inter-African flights are a crap-shoot. So depends on where you are flying from to be honest.

In my humble opinion I think you should consider Qatar Airways. I go to JoBurg every few weeks for diamont auctions. If I cant get a decent fare with Swiss Ive always found Qatar airways to be very inexpensive normally. You might want to check their website? Ive not gone direct with Qatar, you have a lay over in Doha, but it might be worth a look?

Egypt air is not too bad, but the Cairo airport has many interesting smells.

You could try Royal Jordanian Air which was excellent or Gulf Air was pretty good as well.

Thanks all very helpful. Ended up finding a pretty good flight price with Air France!
