Re: how much did you gain during pregnency

With the first over 25kgs! With my second 8 kgs! Breasfeeding helped me both times to loose the extra weight quickly, so for me it was a wonder, thankgoodness With both I was very sick with nausea the first trimester, so I lost 4kgs then

Re: how much did you gain during pregnency

I gained 17kg. Lost exactly after birth 12kg and subsequently the rest, except about 3kg. NOW I'm gaining again and I'm FAR from the pre pregnancy weight, which I actually want to achieve, but that's a different story. The time for regular exercise is a big problem, in order to gain some level of fitness regular nordic walking or swimming is needed, which is currently not possible.

Maybe when little one is a bit older.

Re: how much did you gain during pregnency

Hi

I had my first baby 13 months ago. I gained 22 kilos throughout.
I was 53kilos and 5 ft 8'' before and weigh the same now,

I am the same as before, just my abs are not as toned.

I breast fed fully till baby was weened at 6 months. I still breast feed her now morning and night but she also eats 3 meals and 2 snacks a day.

Hope that helps.

Re: how much did you gain during pregnency

I must admit, I got a little worried about the responses...losing weight? That's crazy, but I guess all of our bodies react a little differently.

Best thing I say is if your dr. isn't worried about how much weight you're gaining, you shouldn't be either. Yes, the term 'eating for two' doesn't really count anymore and our secret is out so we can't munch on the whole box of ice cream and feel guilt free, even with a little one in our tummies

I gained about 15kgs with the first and this one I'm well over that limit and still have 3 months to go. I'm a whale, I know it, but i'll just have to work that much harder to cut down on the weight. It took me about 1 year to get down to a happy weight for me.

Enjoy your pregnancy and don't fret too much about gaining or losing, if you're doctor doesn't fret, you shouldn't either.

Look for the thread about c-section. I had a normal birth and the second time was c-section. And it was 1000 times a better experience for me.

By the way, to add some info. I did breastfeed my first and I was at the same weight I am now with my second without breastfeeding at exactly 3 months p-p.

Re: how much did you gain during pregnency

I'm off to do the diabetics test as well. My blood pressure and blood work always come out normal, she said that there isn't a need for concern and if you can't fast then we may decide not to do it. I am doing it anyways, just to ensure some level of calmness.

Be careful about if the Dr. is from another country than you (i.e. *SOME* Germans/Swiss tend to be very strict about weight fluctuations - so if you end up jumping 2 kgs faster one month than the next month, you may see a VOOOWWW in your future). *Notice, I said some, not all*

I say this from experience. My first Dr. was Swiss, she literally told me, you are getting fat too quick (exact words). I smiled, left the building, then called my husband to ball my eyes out for about 1 hour afterwards I guess some people can handle the truth...I couldn't.

She was good, but just not for me, I'm at another Dr. and let's just say she puts it a little more gently and lets me know that I need to 'watch my weight' and tells me that she will let me know if there is a necessary need for concern. She's half Swiss - so like I said, not all Swiss Dr.'s are the same.

Re: how much did you gain during pregnency

At the beginning of both my pregnancies I lost about 5-7kg as I had severe morning sickness. At the end of both I was about 20kg over weight as once the severe morning sickness turned into normal morning sickness I had to eat constantly to stop myself from throwing up. Breast feeding did bugger all to reduce my weight, it only started coming off when I stopped that. I still have about 5kg to get back to my pre-pregnancy weight and my youngest is no longer a baby .

and yes you must go for that sugar test..i really got worried when i got a letter for that but then all my reports were fine later..it actually relieved me a lot..all the best

Re: how much did you gain during pregnency

Blimey, well, I fit in the "giant gain" category then!

First time I gained 22 kilos, second time it was I think 20.

First time I lost it all within 6 months of the birth (with no breastfeeding, well, just a few weeks of it anyway). I did have two large babies - 4.3 and 4.4 kilos, but I think a lot of my weight gain was water retention.

Second time I managed to get 14 of it off quite quickly (6 months or so) but the last 6 kilos stuck like glue and would not shift. I finally admitted to myself that I was really not happy with it (although I was actually still in the normal BMI, just about) and so then I started a "proper" exercise/diet routine and I managed to shift the 6 kilos in just 3 months. I decided to keep going and managed to shift another 5 kilos! So now I weigh less than I did before my first pregnancy and I've managed to stick at that for the last year and a half with maintenance level of exercise and not dieting but watching what I eat a lot more (and eating less).

Even though I am lighter than I was before PG though, I am not the same dress size - because my body is a different shape and I imagine always will be - my hips are wider and my rib cage seems also wider, but I have shed a lot of fat off legs, bum, arms - as well as that god awful water retention.

I personally think that pregnancy is one time when we ought to just forget about weight and watching what we eat (within reason I mean - obviously healthy eating is good always!) and accept that building up a bit of "padding" is a normal part of pregnancy. Obviously the doctors monitor your weight to give indicators of other issues, but weight gain in itself is usually nothing to worry about.

Re: how much did you gain during pregnency

I gained 20kilos with my first two pregnancies but lost it both times very fast due to lack of appetite and not nursing. Yes, it varies from woman to woman and I think everything between 10 and 25 is normal.

In both cases the birth was planned c-sec anyway, but the weight had nothing to do with that.

I gained about 10 kilos during the 6 months of my third pregnancy and somehow that seems to be stuck, I can't get rid of it all. But since I have always been skinny, I don't look overweight, so I guess I'll just keep the 5 or so kilos that are left. They seem to be assembled around my waist.

Re: how much did you gain during pregnency

Up to about 30 weeks I had only gained about 5 kilos and then from 30 - 36 When i had my C section I had gained 5kilo - this fast weight gain was another symtom of my preclampsia so monitor how fast you are gaining - if all of a sudden you gain lots quickly (and swell up like a balloon - my hands and feet in the end were hideous) then get checked out

Absolutely true. For my first pregnancy, I had gained about 15 kg when I suddenly developed severe preclampsia, and gained 10 kg of water retention in two days! I had to rush to a jeweler to have my rings cut as they were hurting me and I couldn't take them off...

And it took me two years to shed that extra weight! Actually, the moment I weaned my child, at about 2, I suddenly lost it all!

For my second pregnancy I put on about 15 kg. My baby is now 3 months old, and I've already lost it all, even though I'm breastfeedind! I can already wear my pre-pregnancy clothes, it's wonderful

That's interesting do you think the pre eclampsia hindered your weight loss? I am feeling so frustrated that the scales are on the up and I'm still breast feeding. Hope when he weans they might go the other way

Actually yes, I think it did. I sort of stayed bloated, like I couldn't get rid of all that water retention.

This time things are totally different. I've already lost all the extra weight, even though I don't do a diet. My tummy is still a bit wobbly though

Re: how much did you gain during pregnency

Curiously, in which trimester do women tend to gain the most weight?

I'm currently 6 1/2 months pregnant. I weighed about 70 kilos before pregnancy, and I now weigh 82. I'm hoping I won't gain much more, but as it right now, I feel like I could eat anything and everything in sight!

Re: how much did you gain during pregnency

I gained 22 kg for the first. took me 9 months to lose the last 7 kg. I had to join the gym and change my diet habit.

I gained about 14 for the second and lost everything after birth.

My main issue now is not to lose weight or get into shape again as I work out a lot but I need a new pair of breasts
