I was given some pills to take for ten days after my c section which were to contract my uterus back. I was later told by my midwife that the pills were known to affect breast feeding and the milk coming in she told me to stop them straight away but by this point I'd taken them for 8 days. (and my milk took about 12 days to come) damned pills I also think these are why I didn't get any tightening feelings. I also never felt any let down sensations. In fact apart from occasional bursting boobs I felt nothing from breast feeding

I am now hoping when I quit nursing the weight will come off easier/quicker
The pills must have been hormonal, then. Ugh. I wonder if they are given to smooth the womb contraction, since really strong contraction might affect the scar healing, hmm. Well, those contractions sucked and I got massive adhesions, so either way, pills or not, nature deals with it from case to case obviously differently. The dreads of motherhood,

You probably did have painfree let downs, it happens, babies are smart, they know how to provoke letdowns, your baby is probanly gentle with you.

Looking back at myself, if you still nurse and already start working on your metabolism, speeding it up (walks in the morning, small portions but often, no sweet stuff, vegies but not much food at once helped me shed some) you might get a nice headstart and weaning and slimming might be a well timed and comfortable thing. I was a bit worried and beat. Bedtimes were a lot more difficult, hahaha, after one weans. It's handy to replace with different rituals, kids love their rituals, even new ones.

I am jealous, then. The tightening is a major pain in the butt, it's like having a mini spasm.
Think you must have been doing it wrong, then...

Actually, it's normal not to experience those tightening pains for the first child. The more kids you have, the more painful they get, according to midwives at the hospital.

Re: how much did you gain during pregnancy

I didn't have much pain after the birth, beside the scar off course. They gave me some meds at the hospital to help the uterus to get back to it's position but I didn't have any pills beside pain killers to bring home.

Since the birth, I do have very heavy period but no pain. Which is weird since I used to always have pain during that time. No more!

Typically you'll have pains as the uterus goes back into shape. I never took anything for them. If you lay on your tummy, it feels much better. And, they only last for <1 week off and on (stronger while you nurse). It is MUCH stronger with #2.. at least for me and from what my midwife told me

Just shows that we are all different Tummy contractions were very strong with first one, partially I imagine due to the caesarian. Not so painful for second baby, but then she was born 'normally'.

Indeed! My first birth was terribly painful and took much longer to recover compared to my c-section

Re: how much did you gain during pregnancy

I had 2 c-sections, and mild contractions while nursing only for the second one.

I couldn't take painkillers (for medical reason) for m first c-section, so it was quite uncomfortable but not terribly painful. For the second one, they were throwing painkillers a me at the slightest mention of a twinge, so it went ok!

Re: how much did you gain during pregnancy

3.5 months later..and my mummy tummy shows no signs of going away. I have reduced quite a bit since delivery but the pouch makes me look 5 months pregnant still!

Re: how much did you gain during pregnancy

I was 29 when I had my son. Gained 24 kilos and looked like i was carrying twins! He was a big baby (nearly 5 kilos)

Lost all the weight within a year and then a bit more after that. It takes 9 months to grow a baby and it's a good rule of thumb to allow 9 months to lose the weight. I think it's ridiculous to see the celebrities who try to fit back into their size 6 jeans within 8 weeks!

Re: how much did you gain during pregnancy

let's see.. first boy born in Feb 2009, gained 24 kg, lost 19 kg until I got pregnant with second boy in Spring 2010 - gained another 19 kg, boy born in Nov 2010, lost 24 kg until End of July.
Had to use the help of an online programm though that calculates how many calories you're allowed to eat per day using your job and sport routine, current weight and desired weight loss per week as reference.. it's amazing what happens when you have a tiny piece of chocolate, write it down and see how big the impact on this tiny piece on your daily calorie maximum is..

Re: how much did you gain during pregnancy

I'm starting my 7th month and have gained 7kg. A French midwife & a French nurse told me to take it easy and be careful....ah, the French and their vanity concerns
