| | daycare and playgroup for baby in Zurich
Hello,
I'm new to the forum and to Switzerland. My husband and I are going to live in Zurich for the next 6 months, along with our 7 months daughter. We are from Israel and here for my husband's sabbatical. I am looking for a daycare arrangement for our baby, in Zurich (Hongg/Wipkingen area), preferably english speaking or international, and preferably in small groups or in famillies (I'm trying the "tagefamilien" site at the same time).
Also, I would very much like to meet other mothers and find mother-child activities in the area. I'll be very thankful for any recommendations and information!

Hi,
I have moved recently to Zurich. I have a 20 months old daughter. Since both me and my husband will be working here, I am looking for options for day care for my daughter. What are the option available in Zurich particularly in district 7?
Is there typically a waiting list for enrollment?
What are the typical prices for full day daycare starting 8:30 till 5:30 pm?
Replies appreciated.
Thanks.

I discovered that most daycares are full and have long waiting lists. It seems that people here must register their babies pretty early in order to have them in a daycare progrem when the time comes. I was lucky to find a place in November in Hongg (district 10), if you're interested I can give you the details. Another one is Tammy's daycare (see http://www.tammysdaycare.ch/), in which you don't have to register in advance, but personaly I did'nt feel comfortable with the place (worth a visit though). The fees are around 10-12Fr per hour. The best is to just call all daycares in your area (you can search the net or just the yellow pages). Good luck!

Yes there is a pretty long waiting list for most of the daycares.
I agree with Zoharis regarding the Tammys, though its pretty cheap and no registration ( I guess 1700 to 1800 per month for full day , 5 days a week), they dont seem to do a lot of activities etc .
I am not sure which area is dist 10, I found a place in Little star Sihlcity for my 24 month old son, but the fees are way toooo high (2800 for full day , 5 days a week) .
My Son initially started in a German speaking day care, but couldnt adjust , I guess because of the language. (may be thats because my son can understand and speak almost 100% of a regional Indian language)
Normally a day care costs 2300 to 2400 for 5day, full day.
(full day means 7 - 6 or 7.30 - 6.30 )
Hope this helps
Regards
Prad

I'm sure for some people that's a plus but for me that was enough to rule it out.

| | Day care in Zurich or Orlekon - 8050
We moved from San Francisco and are looking for English speaking day care near our house. I found one but they speak broken english and that too only with parents. Its Kindergripe Schnider.Any one knows if its a good one?
I also want the teachers and care providers to communicate with my toddler son in English. Kindly suggest. Thanks

I would like to recommend Babysitting24.ch as a great child care finding service in many places in Switzerland. You can search for nannies, day moms, occasional sitters by zip code or city from 1-20+ km around your area, view individual profiles of prospective people, and email them about questions and qualifications.
3 months of access to the service is around 30 chf, which is a worthwhile investment for someone looking for a viable list of child care options. Many offerings are in English but so many people can speak German, Swiss German, French, etc to your child so it can double as a language emersion investment too. Prices per hour are usually 15-25 chf/hour but many people are willing to negotiate.
